Playing career
Fry was a goaltender himself, starting his goaltending career off at the age of 15 playing for the Portland Winterhawks in the Western Hockey League. His career in the WHL lasted five years and spread across the Winterhawks, Spokane Chiefs, and the Victoria Cougars (now known as the Prince George Cougars). He received the WHL Allstar award in 1986.
Fry was drafted round 10 - #191 overall in the 1987 NHL Entry Draft by the New Jersey Devils [3]. Though he never played a game in the National Hockey League, he continued his goaltending career playing at the University of Calgary from 1988 - 1990, for the Knoxville Cherokees of the ECHL from 1990 - 1991, in Sweden for the Helsingborgs HC from 1991 - 1992, and finished his playing career in 1992 - 1993 playing for both the Roanoke Valley Rampage in the ECHL and the Detroit Falcons (CoHL).
Coaching Career
Before mindset coaching, Pete spent years training both goalies and players on technical skills. He started his coaching career as an instructor at the Okanagan Hockey School, now known as the Okanagan Hockey Group, founded by Larry Lund in 1963. During his time in Penticton, he coached alongside NHL Goalies Grant Fuhr, Andy Moog, Ron Tugnutt, and Darren Jensen. Three of Pete's early students from this time were Eli Wilson, Rob Tallas, and Mike Valley.
Fry went on to start his own franchise of training rinks called Puckmasters, with over 30 locations opening across Canada and the United States. Many of these have closed or changed names, leaving one open and running in Michigan.
After shifting from technical skills, Fry decided to switch to mindset coaching. With goaltending being one of the most difficult positions in sports and him having experienced his own struggles with mindset, he decided to dedicate his time to helping up and coming goaltenders strengthen their mindsets[4].
Concepts that he frequently covers with his goalies are: The Athlete Mindset, Confidence Anchoring[5], Pre-Faceoff Routine [6], Focus [7], and the Three Mental Zones.
Pete has worked or is currently working with: 1. Jakub Dobeš, NHL[8] 2. Stuart Skinner, NHL 3. Joel Hofer, NHL 4. Jeff Glass, NHL 5. Jiří Patera (ice hockey), NHL 6. Calle Clang, AHL 7. Partnerships
In 2026, Fry and his team launched two partnerships. One with NHL Sense Arena, a virtual reality game created for ice hockey players and goaltenders to practice their skills from any location. The second with From The Crease, created by professional goaltending coach Ian Clark. From The Crease is an app created for goaltenders and goalie coaches to provide instant access to training instruction from anywhere.
