Biography
Born on September 12, 1956 in Bafang, the department of Haut-Nkam, Western region.[1] Kwemo Pierre is a seasoned tax advisor, business leader, and former SDF MP who became a key figure in Cameroon’s financial governance. In the same vein, he holds the position of Vice-President of the General Assembly of the Order of Tax Councils of Cameroon. After founding the Union of Socialist Movements (UMS) in 2011, he served as mayor of Bafang from 2013 to 2020 and later led the REP-FISCOD parliamentary network. In 2025, he was appointed as the UMS candidate for the Cameroonian presidential election[2]. KWEMO Pierre married to two wives, is the father of 12 children, making him a family leader, leader in the business world.[3]
A convinced activist of the Social Democratic Front, Pierre Kwemo climbed the ranks within the political party of Ni John Fru Ndi. And yet, on October 27, 2010, he resigned from the homeless. If he did not want to give explanations to the press at the time of his departure from Fru Ndi's party, he will later describe, in a document called the rupture, the journey within this political formation. Pierre Kwemo described the victories and defeats of this political journey that led him to the vice-presidency of the National Assembly during the legislature (2002-2007). It was during this period that he succeeded at the May 2006 congress in Bamenda to become the first vice-president of the party.[4]
Education
Career
Candidate of the Union of Socialist Movements (UMS) in the presidential election of Cameroon in 2025, KWEMO Pierre enjoys a prolific political career, as well as an eloquent professional career.[5] Pierre Kwémo, national president of the Union of Socialist Movements (UMS) and MP for Haut-Nkam, was officially nominated on May 31 in Yaoundé as his party’s presidential candidate for the October election, where he presented his political, economic, and social agenda. Running for president for the first time, Kwémo reaffirmed his support for opposition unity, stating he is ready to step aside for a consensus candidate chosen through an opposition platform that also advocates reform of the electoral code. While confirming his participation in a conclave of opposition contenders, he insisted it include only candidates validated by the Constitutional Council—a stance implicitly aimed at MRC leader Maurice Kamto, whose candidacy is disputed due to his party’s lack of elected officials, sparking constitutional debate. A former SDF member, Kwémo emphasized that only legally validated candidates should take part in selecting a single opposition nominee.[6]
In addition to his political role as founding president of the Union of Socialist Movements, Pierre Kwemo is an eminent personality of the Cameroonian sports movement. He previously held the position of president of the Cameroonian Boxing Federation and is the founder of the Union des mouvements sportifs de Loum (UMS), an elite championship football club.[7]
