Dr. Prasanta Kumar Mohanty is an Indian academic administrator and researcher with more than three decades of experience in higher education and management education. He currently serves as Vice Chancellor of Centurion University of Technology and Management, Andhra Pradesh, located in Vizianagaram.[1] His academic work has focused on supply chain management, operations management, and customer relationship management, with particular emphasis on practical applications within Indian business contexts. Dr. Mohanty's career spans roles in institutional leadership, business education development, and management research. Throughout his professional journey, he has contributed to strengthening management education in India and advancing skill-integrated higher education models.

Early life and education

Dr. Mohanty earned his Bachelor of Engineering degree in Electronics & Communication Engineering through the Institute of Engineers (India) (AMIE) in 1989, an All India Council for Technical Education-recognized qualification.[2] He subsequently obtained a Post Graduate Diploma in Business Management (PGDM) from the Institute of Management and Mass Communication (IMM) in New Delhi in 1993.[3] Dr. Mohanty completed his doctoral research in supply chain management at Ravenshaw University in Cuttack, Odisha, earning his PhD in 2014.[4] In 2012, he also completed a Certificate Programme in Project Management through the Project Management Institute (PMI) in collaboration with Tenstep India.

Career

Early academic work and entrepreneurship

Dr. Mohanty began his professional career in 1989 as a Lecturer in Electronics & Communication Engineering at OIET, teaching engineering and technical subjects. In 1993, while maintaining his involvement with academic institutions, he founded PRADO SOLUTIONS, an entrepreneurial venture focused on data recovery software solutions. This venture reflected his interest in combining technology, business applications, and practical innovation. In 1995, Dr. Mohanty joined the Institute of Management and Infrastructure Services (IMIS) in Bhubaneswar as an Assistant Professor. At IMIS, he developed expertise in quantitative analysis, operations management, operations research, and management sciences. His work during this period involved curriculum delivery, academic mentoring, and institutional development initiatives.

Business education leadership

From 2000 to 2007, Dr. Mohanty served as Deputy Director at IMIS, taking on expanded responsibilities in admissions management, programme administration, strategic planning, and operational oversight. During this tenure, he contributed to strengthening academic systems and institutional processes. Between 2007 and 2008, Dr. Mohanty served as Dean and Head of Koustuv Business School, where he established academic frameworks for the institution. From 2008 to 2011, Dr. Mohanty led Oretus Business Academy as Dean, focusing on training, consulting, and skill development in management education. Dr. Mohanty joined Centurion University of Technology and Management in 2011 as Dean and Professor of the School of Management. In 2016, Dr. Mohanty was appointed Dean – Academics at Centurion University, a position that expanded his responsibilities across the entire institution. As Dean, he oversaw curriculum development across multiple disciplines, faculty recruitment and mentoring, institutional academic planning, quality assurance systems, and the integration of industry-linked practical learning. During this seven-year tenure, he played a key role in developing and strengthening Centurion University's skill-integrated education model, which emphasizes practical training alongside theoretical knowledge.[5] In July 2023, Dr. Mohanty was appointed Vice Chancellor of Centurion University of Technology and Management, Andhra Pradesh, located in Vizianagaram.[6] As Vice Chancellor, he provides strategic leadership for the university's academic and institutional development, overseeing industry partnerships, research and innovation initiatives, faculty development, curriculum alignment with national education priorities, and institutional representation before government and academic bodies.[7]
