Biography
Ren received a bachelor of laws from the University of Tokyo[2] and a master of laws from New York University in 2004,[3] admitted to practice law in New York in 2005.[4] He also received a master of arts in East Asian Studies from Stanford University in 2005.[4]
He joined the Japanese Foreign Service in 2001,[1] serving as a diplomat for 15 years.[5] From 2016 to 2019, he served as CEO from Mercari Europe, orchestrating the company's IPO.[2] He later becoming chief operating officer at Stability AI.[6]
Ren was let go from Stability AI in 2023,[7] going on to co-found Sakana AI that year along with David Ha and Llion Jones.[8]
