  • Comment: Early life and education section is entirely unreferenced. References in the remaining content are heavily reliant upon unreliable primary sources closely associated with Haynie (LISA, LinkedIn, etc), while Forbes Business Council content is paid-for self-publication. The draft article body copy has 14 inline citations, yet the References section bombards us with 18 further unused citations - this is WP:Citation Overkill, particularly when most of it appears to be stuff by him, not about him. Is there any significant coverage about him in reliable, independent secondary sources with reputations for accuracy and fact-checking? Paul W (talk) 20:22, 15 March 2026 (UTC)

He is currently board chair of the Life Insurance Settlement Association[1] (LISA), the industry's primary trade organization, in the United States, and is a charter member of its Political and Policy Committee focused on regulatory and legislative matters.[2][3]

Early life and education

Haynie was born John "Rob" Haynie Jr. on June 9, 1964, in Cape May Court House, New Jersey. He grew up in Wildwood Crest, New Jersey, and attended Wildwood High School.

Haynie pursued higher education initially at Eastern College (now Eastern University) before transferring to Florida State University in Tallahassee, Florida. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminology from Florida State University in 1988.

Professionally, Haynie holds licenses issued by the State of Florida, including a Real Estate License and an Insurance License (Life and Health), along with a Viatical Settlement Broker Appointment. He currently resides in Fort Lauderdale, Florida (Miami-Fort Lauderdale area) with his wife Lauren and two twin daughters.

Career

Haynie worked in commercial real estate for a brokerage firm in Tavares, Florida.before entering the life settlements industry in 1993, initially working in the Viatical settlement market, which at the time involved transactions for terminally ill policyholders (primarily those with HIV/AIDS) who sold their policies for immediate cash to cover medical and living expenses.[4][3]

Haynie transitioned with the industry as it evolved from viatical settlements (focused on terminal illnesses) to broader Life settlements. He has served as managing director (and owner/partner) of Life Insurance Settlements, Inc. (LIS),[3][5] a Fort Lauderdale-based brokerage firm established in 1993 as one of the early life settlement brokers. Through LIS, Haynie has been involved in the firm's collective brokering of approximately 24,000–26,000 policies across team members.[2]

Haynie has held multiple terms on the LISA board of directors.[6] In October 2024, at LISA's 30th Annual Life Settlement Conference in Miami, Haynie received the Alan H. Buerger (AHB) Leadership Award, recognizing his foundational contributions to the industry's growth and LISA's development.[7][8] In late 2024, he also received recognition from Finseca/NAILBA's ID Twenty Award for innovation in independent insurance distribution.[9][2] In a December 2025 Forbes Council article, Haynie reflected on the industry's "full-circle moment," connecting its viatical origins during the HIV/AIDS crisis to modern applications and ongoing relevance.[2]

He has contributed several articles on life settlement topics to the Forbes Business Council:
