Draft:Stone Island (Poole)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Stone Island, also known as Stoney Island or Tidal Sand Isle, is the remains of an old recurved shingle spit which is only visible between high tide. It lies in Poole Harbour, Dorset, England, immediately south of Brownsea Island.[1][2] It is now gradually being submerged by rising sea-level.[3][4]

The island consists of gravel and sand and is approximately 100 yards long.[5]
Stone Island is marked on Admiralty Chart 2611.[6] The island is hardly aptly named, as it consists merely of sand and only pokes above the surface at low tide, hence the beacon. As there is no ferry to the island, it can be accessed only by private vessel.[7]
