Swarnava Chakraborty is an Indian film editor and director primarily active in Bengali cinema. He is a graduate of Roopkala Kendro, a Government of West Bengal film and social communication institute. He is best known for his work on the ZEE5 series Ronkini Bhavan (2025) and the feature film Ananta (2022).

Early life and education

Swarnava Chakraborty graduated with a degree in Film Studies before pursuing a Post Graduate degree in Media Studies (Film and Television) from the University of Calcutta. He subsequently completed a specialized Post Graduate program in Film Editing from Roopkala Kendro, an institute under the Information and Cultural Affairs Department of the Government of West Bengal.

Career

Swarnava Chakraborty's professional career began in independent cinema. He served as the editor for the independent English-language feature film Talking of Michelangelo (2017), directed by Modhurima Sinha. the film gained critical attention and was screened at the Kolkata International Film Festival (KIFF).

Following his debut, Swarnava Chakraborty worked across a variety of formats including feature films, documentaries, and digital series. In 2022, he edited the feature film Ananta, directed by Abhinandan Dutta, which was noted for its intricate narrative style. He further established his presence in Bengali feature cinema as the editor for Mayaa (2023) and Sada Ronger Prithibi (2024), directed by Raajhorshee De.

Swarnava Chakraborty has also contributed to socially relevant documentary filmmaking. In 2024, he edited Beyond the Blues, a documentary directed by Debalina exploring the lives of transmen in India. The film was featured at the 10th Kolkata People's Film Festival and received coverage in The Times of India for its empathetic portrayal of queer narratives.[1]

In 2025, he transitioned into mainstream OTT platforms as the lead editor for the ZEE5 original psychological thriller series Ronkini Bhavan. In addition to his editing work, he has ventured into directing some corporate films and Ads project .

In 2024, he edited the documentary Beyond the Blues, directed by Debalina. The film, which examines the lives of transmen in India, was screened at the 10th Kolkata People's Film Festival and received significant coverage in The Times of India.[2]
