Theo Burrell is a British antiques specialist, auctioneer and television expert known for appearing as a ceramics and decorative arts specialist on the BBC television programme Antiques Roadshow. She works as a specialist and auctioneer for the auction house Lyon & Turnbull.

Early life and education

Burrell studied at the University of Glasgow, where she completed a Master of Arts degree in History followed by a Master of Letters (MLitt) in Decorative Arts.[1]

Career

Burrell joined the auction house Lyon & Turnbull in July 2011 as a specialist in antiques and decorative arts.[1] During her early career with the firm she ran seasonal antiques auctions and later helped introduce the company's “Interiors” sale format.[1]

In 2012 she became an auctioneer and began conducting sales across a range of auctions.[1] Her specialist areas include European ceramics, glass and decorative arts, particularly objects from the late nineteenth and twentieth centuries.[1]

Burrell later joined the team of experts on the BBC programme Antiques Roadshow, where specialists examine and appraise antiques brought in by members of the public during filming events around the United Kingdom.[2]

Health and advocacy

In June 2022 Burrell was diagnosed with glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain tumour, after experiencing several months of severe migraines and neurological symptoms.[3]

She underwent brain surgery followed by radiotherapy and chemotherapy.[4]

Burrell has spoken publicly about her experience living with the disease and has supported efforts to increase awareness and funding for brain tumour research.[5]

She later became a patron of the charity Brain Tumour Research and has taken part in campaigns calling for increased research funding.[6]

Personal life

Burrell lives in East Lothian, Scotland, with her partner and their son.[7]
