Purpose of the article
The purpose is to record the life and significance of George Addison Cox a qualified engineer/architect and industrialist, under whose direction the entire control of developing the the giant 30 acre Camperdown Works in Lochee, Dundee, Scotland, was given. A 1911 history of Lochee wrote In each department the impress of a master mind is apparent – in construction, attention to detail, and in the productive power of appliances.”[1]. The outcome at its peak, the world’s largest Jute factory, is of historical significance and example of manufacturing advances during the Industrial Revolution in Scotland.
