Fateme cantà (transl. Let me sing) is a song by Italian singer-songwriter Ultimo. It was released on 22 February 2019 by Honiro as the second single from the third studio album Colpa delle favole.[1][2]
The song is intended as a manifesto in which the singer-songwriter expresses directly, without rhetorical figures, his desire to make music simply and spontaneously. The song is sung entirely in Roman dialect, a familiar part of the everyday life of the singer, born and raised in the San Basilio neighborhood of Rome. The lyrics emphasize the effects of popularity and media overexposure, the contrasts between everyday life and sudden success, and Ultimo's desire to bring his music to the public without becoming known, thus promoting only his own songs.[3]
Regarding the song, Ultimo revealed:[4]
You can't explain certain songs; you have to "feel" them.
Music video
The music video, directed by Emanuele Pisano, was released alongside the song on Honiro's YouTube channel, and featured Antonello Venditti.[5][6]
