Disputed non-free rationale

thejiujiangdragon, I addressed the concern in the N.F.U.R., but would still like you to elaborate on why you think being able to see the snake doesn't increase the reader's understanding of the topic significantly? The same logic can be applied many articles about film characters (e.g. Han Solo, Padmé Amidala or Morpheus). If you want animated, we can go with Uncle Ruckus, Huey and Riley Freeman and Peter, Meg, Lois, Chris and Stewie Griffin just to name a few. Nutella lover[ chatsupervise ] 00:23, 22 March 2026 (UTC)

I think there is enough reasoning as to why this file passes WP:NFCC#8. I retract. thejiujiangdragon 🔥🐉 00:32, 22 March 2026 (UTC)

Disputed non-free rationale again

Adeletron 3030, the same policy has previously been referred to defence of deleting this file, however this time, your problem is that it is being used in a list article, and as WP:NFCC#8 states, N.F.C. is used only if its presence would significantly increase readers' understanding of the article topic.... This feels a lot like WP:WL. The policy's principle is obviously about how significant it is and its purpose is clearly not to emphasise the importance of it being the article topic and not just a section in a long article.

Look here:

They include non-free images of characters despite them being lists of characters. This behaviour has clearly been confirmed and normalised before. Nutella lover[ chatsupervise ] 19:28, 8 April 2026 (UTC)

@Nutella lover Sorry I wasn’t clear. I’m referring to WP:NFLISTS. I won’t comment on your individual examples, but non-free images at the top of the article, for example, a cast photo, is considered fine. What’s not acceptable is a non-free image used for visual identification of a list entry.
In all your examples, you’ll note that non-free images are not used to illustrate individual characters. The only exceptions are group images of a category of characters (the Jetsons list is also a little different because there’s essentially a mini article with an infobox for each major character).Adeletron 3030 (talkedits) 20:18, 8 April 2026 (UTC)
There are still non-group photos of individual characters in their appropriate sections, but since the policy you provided is valid, I suppose they are wrong. Nutella lover[ chatsupervise ] 13:26, 9 April 2026 (UTC)
