Gerardo Sotelo del Giacco (born April 28, 1958) is a Uruguayan journalist, author and politician, serving as a National Representative in the 50th Legislature since 2025. A member of the Independent Party, he previously served as director of the National Television and president of the National Audiovisual Communication Service from 2020 to 2024.
Sotelo was born in Montevideo in 1958 and was raised in the Palermo neighborhood.[1] His father was a graphic worker, and his mother was an officer at the State Insurance Bank.[2] He is of Galician and Italian descent.[3] He attended public schools and completed a technical baccalaureate at the Higher School of Social Communication and Graphic Design of the University of Labor of Uruguay.[4]
