István Kapitány (born 17 December 1961) is a Hungarian business executive and politician who served as Global Executive Vice President of Shell from 2014 to 2024.[1] He previously served as the President of Shell Hungary, and President of Shell Commercial Fuels and Lubricants for the Americas, based in Houston, Texas. He is currently a senior politician in the Tisza Party, serving as an economic expert.
He was born in Debrecen, in the Hungarian People's Republic. His father, also named István, was a chief pilot for Malév Hungarian Airlines who died in the crash of Malév Flight 355 in 1962, which he was piloting. His family later ran a spice store, where he had his first job.[2]
He graduated from the Budapest Business School (now named Budapest University of Economics and Business).
