Mecistocephalus subgigas is a species of soil centipede in the family Mecistocephalidae.[1] This centipede is found on the island of New Guinea.[1] This species has 49 pairs of legs and can reach 60 mm in length.[2]

This species was first described in 1919 by the Italian myriapodologist Filippo Silvestri.[3] He based the original description of this species on specimens found in the villages of Simbang and Sattelberg, both in Morobe Province in Papua New Guinea.[3] This species is known only from Papua New Guinea.[1]
