The Ministry of Industry and Trade is the ministry of the Moroccan government responsible for the preparation and implementation of the state's policy in the fields of industry and trade. It is involved in the development of industrial policies, the regulation of commercial activities, industrial standardization, as well as the management of industrial and commercial property rights.[1]
The ministry is headquartered in Rabat. Since 2024, the Minister of Industry and Trade has been Ryad Mezzour.[2]
Responsibilities relating to industry and trade were incorporated into the Moroccan governmental structure from the first post-independence governments beginning in 1955. Over the following decades, the administrative organization responsible for industry and trade underwent several restructurings linked to government reorganizations and changes in economic policy.
The portfolio was expanded in 2007 to include new technologies, leading to the creation of the Ministry of Industry, Trade and New Technologies.[3]
Following a government reshuffle in 2019, it was renamed the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Green and Digital Economy.
In 2021, it became the Ministry of Industry and Trade following a new reorganization of the government structure.[4]
