The Moroccan Institute for Standardization (IMANOR) is a Moroccan public institution responsible for the development and dissemination of national standards, as well as conformity certification. It serves as the national standards body of Morocco.

IMANOR was established in 2010 as part of the reform of the national standardization system. It succeeded the Moroccan Industrial Standardization Service (SNIMA), taking over its responsibilities.[1]

Its creation was part of efforts to modernize the regulatory framework and enhance the competitiveness of the Moroccan economy, particularly through alignment with international standards.[2][3]

Missions and activities

IMANOR is responsible for implementing national standardization policy and promoting quality in Morocco.[4]

In this capacity, it carries out:[5][6][7]

  • the development, approval, and dissemination of Moroccan standards (NM);
  • certification of conformity for products, services, and management systems;
  • promotion of standardization and quality culture among economic actors;
  • halal certification of products;
  • support for companies in complying with national and international standards;
  • training and awareness programs related to standards;
  • participation in the work of international and regional standardization bodies.

Its activities cover several sectors, including industry, agri-food, energy, construction, and services.

Organization

IMANOR operates under the supervision of the Ministry of Industry and Trade. It is governed by a board of directors and headed by a director general.

The institute relies on technical committees bringing together representatives of public administrations, the private sector, professional organizations, and experts.[8]

Moroccan standards

Standards developed by IMANOR are designated as “Moroccan Standards” (NM). They are generally aligned with international standards, particularly those of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO).[9]

International cooperation

IMANOR represents Morocco within several international and regional standardization bodies, including:
