North Korea was under sanctions by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) since 2021 due to its national anti-doping body's non-compliance with WADA standards. As a consequence, North Korea was barred from using it flags in international sports competitions except the Olympics and Paralympics but the Olympic Council of Asia allowed the country to use its flag in the Asian Games.[5]
