Pages is the 1978 eponymous debut album by American jazz rock band Pages. It was released in October 1978 by Epic Records. It features styles ranging from Steely Dan-esque jazz rock ("Clearly Kim" and "Room at the Top") to smooth ballads ("This Is for the Girls" and "I Get It from You").

The album was produced by Blood, Sweat & Tears drummer Bobby Colomby, who signed the band to Epic Records after hearing their demo tape. It came to his attention when the members of the band were touring with Andy Gibb in 1977. Childhood friends from Phoenix, Arizona, Richard Page and Steve George met the other members of Pages in Gibb's band. This also included their friend, John Lang, as a lyricist, who continued to work with the duo in their pop rock band Mr. Mister.[1]

The album featured session musicians including Colomby, Philip Bailey of Earth, Wind & Fire, Dave Grusin, Michael Brecker, Victor Feldman, and Claudio Slon. Although Richard Page provided most of the lead vocals, Steve George performed lead vocals on "Let It Go" and co-lead vocals on "Listen for the Love." During a concert on their promotional tour after the album's release, Page explained that the song "Love Dance" was originally about 6 minutes long, but had to be cut down because it would make that side of the album too long for release and reduce its overall quality.[2]

Reception

Colomby was quoted as saying that "Pages represents the mainstream of contemporary music. They utilize various elements and combine them into an original and tasty mixture that will appeal to all formats of radio." Despite Colomby's prediction, radio found it hard to place the group's sound. Neither Pages nor its single "If I Saw You Again" made the Billboard charts.

In 1981, Herb Alpert recorded "I Get It from You" on his album, Magic Man.
