Prima (album)

After competing and being eliminated in the 2023 Hybe and Geffen Records reality competition series Dream Academy alongside 19 other female acts^[5] and appearing in the Netflix documentary Pop Star Academy: Katseye,^[6] Adéla embarked on her solo career. On 13 September 2024, she released her debut single "Homewrecked", which preceded her debut extended play (EP) The Provocateur. The EP was released on 22 August 2025.^[7]

The opening track, "KGB" is a "rave-leaning" dance-pop and electro-pop anthem with tech house influences.^[8][9] Lyrically, she uses the phrase KGB, the Soviet Union's secret police agency, as a metaphor for her relentless training and studying to become a popstar.^[9] The track "Ain't in LA" is a synth-pop song featuring heavy synths and a deep bass voice.^[10] It lyrically rejects the idea that success is confined to Los Angeles.^[11]

On 17 April 2026, "KGB" was released as the lead single from Prima. It was followed by "Red Bottoms" on 12 June, and "Ain't in LA" on 23 July; the latter marked Adéla's international breakthrough single, becoming the first song by a Slovak artist to chart on the US Billboard Hot 100^[3] and attained viral success on the social media app TikTok. The song topped the music chart in the Philippines,^[12] and peaked at number three in the Netherlands,^[13] and at number five in Singapore.^[14] After the release of "Ain't in LA", Adéla announced the release of Prima on Instagram with an expected release date of 4 September 2026. Physical CDs, vinyls, and Prima merchandise were made available at the same time.^[15] "Nicole Kidman" was released as the fourth single from Prima on 4 September alongside the rest of the album.^[16]

Prior to the release of the album, Adéla embarked on her second concert tour named the Red Bottoms Tour in support of both The Provocateur and Prima. It began on 25 August 2026 in London, England, and is set to conclude on 3 February 2027 in Warsaw, Poland.^[4] In further promotion of Prima, Adéla appeared on the cover of several magazines including Clash,^[17] Teen Vogue,^[18] and Vogue Czechoslovakia.^[19] She also performed songs from the album at the Lollapolooza festival in August 2026.^[20][21]

AnyDecentMusic? gave the album a weighted average score of 6.4 out of 10 from seven critic scores.^[22] According to Metacritic, it received "generally favorable" reviews based on a weighted average score of 69 out of 100 from eight critic scores.^[23]

Jem Aswad of Variety deemed the album "more memorable and more unusual" than her previous releases.^[32] While Alexis Petridis of The Guardian gave the album three out of five stars, he opined that the album "puts a distinctive spin on the best of 00s hedonism".^[25] The album was rated 3.5 out of five stars by Rolling Stone.^[28] Writing for Billboard, Kyle Denis stated that the album has its weaker moments but "they barely cast a shadow over the LP". He also said that "In an era rife with pop singers who don’t really know exactly what they want to say or why they want to make music, Adéla has put the entire scene on notice with Prima."^[33]

In the United States, Prima debuted at number four on the Billboard 200, selling 56,000 album-equivalent units, comprised of 31,000 pure sales and 25,000 streaming units. It also debuted at number one on the Top Album Sales chart and at number 14 at Top Streaming Albums chart in the country.^[34]

In Australia, the album debuted at number six. Along with this, "Ain't in LA" rose to a new peak of 15.^[35] In the United Kingdom, the Official Charts Company reported that the album moved 12,253 units in its debut week, peaking at number two. This also made her the first Slovak artist to have an album enter the chart. It also peaked at number eight on the UK Album Downloads Chart.^[36]
