Stanmore is a rural locality in the City of Moreton Bay, Queensland, Australia.[2] In the 2021 census, Stanmore had a population of 454 people.[1]
Stanmore is 70 kilometres (43 mi) north of Brisbane in Queensland, Australia. The Stanley River passes through Stanmore and marks part of the northern boundary. Bellthorpe State Forest occupies a section of the north. Kilcoy–Beerwah Road runs through from south to north-east.[3]
History
The locality derives its name from a grazing property Stanmore established by George Adophus Mason by 1875 and operated by him until his death in 1936.[2][4][5][6]
Stanmore Provisional School opened in 1891.[7] On 1 January 1909, it became Stanmore State School. It closed on 31 December 1972.[8] The school was at 491-495 Kilcoy Beerwah Road (26°53′37″S 152°46′54″E / 26.8935°S 152.7818°E).[9][10][11]
In 1912 part of the Stanmore property was subdivided and sold.[12][13]
