Inline link RfC

It's clear that this is the same question that is being asked at Talk:2022 FIFA World Cup#Inline link RfC, so I'm closing this per WP:MULTI and WP:FORUMSHOP. I may close the first one too: I'm still undecided on that matter. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 14:38, 25 July 2021 (UTC)
Should the name of the host nation include an inline link to the nation's article? For example, should the first instance of the word "Brazil" be bracketed so as to provide a link to Brazil? Rowsdower45 (talk) 06:16, 25 July 2021 (UTC)
- Strong Oppose First this is a clear WP:OVERLINK as it's almost impossible that any fan of the sport would not know where Brazil was and it is against a WP:FOOTY WP:CONSENSUS, and exactly the same question as you asked at Talk:2022 FIFA World Cup and you are WP:FORUMSHOPping hoping you'll get your way in one location. Walter Görlitz (talk) 06:25, 25 July 2021 (UTC)
- A bit ironic that Brazil is an example of an OVERLINK at the documentation. Walter Görlitz (talk) 06:29, 25 July 2021 (UTC)
- Strong oppose per my comment at Talk:2002_FIFA_World_Cup#Inline_link_RfC. Tony (talk) 09:00, 25 July 2021 (UTC)
- Support The intro includes an inline link to the Americas (which encompasses a larger and more well-known area than Brazil) and FIFA World Cup, which are both sufficiently well-known and also provide users a convenient click to learn more information about these topics.Rowsdower45 (talk) 11:43, 25 July 2021 (UTC)

Should use American English
This article should be written in American English (e.g. soccer), since the host nation Brazil is located in the Americas. – Illegitimate Barrister (talk • contribs), 07:31, 21 June 2026 (UTC)
- According to MOS:RETAIN and MOS:TIES, we should only change the variety of English used if an article has strong ties to a particular English-speaking nation. I don't think being in the Americas counts for that. Wburrow (talk) 13:48, 21 June 2026 (UTC)
