Firstly i would like to thank you for not only flagging my mistakes but also telling me about the rules governing editing. I totally acknowledge my mistakes and accept the contentions raised by you. I have since refrained from editing till the time i could get the required citations and have personally typed and edited the text without any use of LLM. The Army War College, Mhow (AWC) is a defence service training and research institution of the Indian Army located in Mhow, Madhya Pradesh. It conducts research in tactics, logistics, contemporary military studies and military doctrine. The college trains about 2,500–3,000 officers of the Indian Armed Forces and paramilitary forces each year.^[3]

== History ==

The college was originally established as the College of Combat at Mhow on 1 April 1971 under the leadership of Major General Onkar Singh Kalkat, PVSM, following the merger of the Senior Officers' and Tactical Wings of the Infantry School, Mhow.^[4]

Once the Senior Command Course also started at the College, it was decided to separate the College of Combat from the Infantry School.

The foundation stone of the new college campus was laid on 6 January 1983 by the then Chief of the Army Staff, General K. V. Krishna Rao. The institution remained on the campus of Infantry School until the college moved in August 1988. On 1 January 2003, the college was renamed Army War College, Mhow.^[5]

Two former Commandants of the College of Combat — General K. Sundarji, PVSM, and General V. N. Sharma, PVSM, AVSM — subsequently rose to become Chiefs of Army Staff of the Indian Army.^[6][7]

== Training ==

AWC develops doctrines and trains Army personnel for operations in environments to which the Indian Army forces are typically deployed.^[8] AWC aims to train forces for synchronised operation with other services of the armed forces.^[9]

It develops and validates new operational and logistic concepts through conceptual studies, war games, discussions and seminars.

AWC courses include:

The Higher Command course (HCC) is part of a [[Master of Philosophy]] programme in Defence Management, affiliated with the Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya (Indore University). The HCC is aimed at officers of the rank of Colonel, Captain and Group Captain who have completed their command tenure.

About 2,500–3,000 officers of the Indian Army and Indian paramilitary forces undergo training each year, accompanied by about 100 officers of foreign armies.^[2]

== Faculty of Studies and Leadership ==

The Faculty of Studies and Leadership serves as the think tank for doctrine and concept development at Army War College. It undertakes research on contemporary strategic, operational and tactical issues and recommends doctrines and concepts for the Indian Army. Key annual events include the Doctrine and Strategy Seminar, the Combat Debate, and the Strategic Fusion and Convergence Capsule.^[11]

== Faculty of Military Leadership ==

The Faculty of Military Leadership (FACMIL) conducts leadership training programmes for officers undergoing the Junior Command, Senior Command, Higher Command and Higher Defence Orientation courses.^[12]

A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between Headquarters Army Training Command and the Indian Institute of Management Indore in February 2022 to facilitate serving officers in undertaking an Executive Doctoral Programme in Management and Governance.^[13]

The Information Warfare Division imparts training on Information Warfare to officers of all three services of the Indian Armed Forces, enabling them to serve in Information Warfare appointments at various formation headquarters. The Higher Command Wing conducts the Higher Command Course — a 42-week programme that prepares select officers for command and staff appointments at operational and strategic levels. The "Higher Command Wing" section initially appears to be supported, but when I checked the source the very first sentence failed verification, as does the second.
