Subtropical?

Not an expert so not changing main page. I think Auckland meets criteria for Köppen Cfa, humid subtropical. Like much of NZ it is extremely maritime which means that the Köppen divisions do not match all that well. 115.189.87.173 (talk) 01:53, 11 August 2024 (UTC)

This has been discussed multiple times previously. See the archives. DerbyCountyinNZ (Talk Contribs) 01:58, 11 August 2024 (UTC)
Under the Köppen classification, you need at least one month with a daily mean temperature above 22 °C (72 °F) to qualify for a humid subtropical climate (Cfa). Auckland's highest daily mean temperature is 20.5 °C (68.9 °F) in February, which falls well short and I doubt would even classify it as a borderline case. Landmarks/notable places

There are over 500 Heritage NZ registered places in the Auckland Region-mostly in the urban area-alone; it'd be out of scope to include every single landmark and notable building/mountain in this article. I say for such a broad topic article these things need coverage in a secondary source about Auckland itself, rather than just a secondary source about the thing itself. Traumnovelle (talk) 20:42, 1 December 2024 (UTC)

You mean for the architecture section? That seems reasonable - mentions in a broad article like this should be features strongly associated with the city, or features that scholars have noted as exceptional and strongly associated with Auckland. Was there anything in particular you had in mind as needing inclusion or exclusion? --Prosperosity (talk) 23:49, 1 December 2024 (UTC)
Nothing in particular, I just deleted an incredibly large mostly unsourced list that had little encyclopaedic value. I want to say there are obvious ones but we should let the sources do the talking for that. Traumnovelle (talk) 00:05, 2 December 2024 (UTC)
Sounds like a fair call - I guess have a look at what the sources say, and think if there are any glaring omissions. Prosperosity (talk) 21:04, 2 December 2024 (UTC)

@LivinAWestLife I asked at Wikipedia talk:Manual of Style/Linking and two users agreed that 'skyline' linking to a list of a list of tallest buildings to not be what they would expect from such a link. Traumnovelle (talk) 04:08, 9 August 2025 (UTC)

Agree, just because it is used in other articles does not mean it is appropriate. The link should be restored to [[Auckland CBD]]. DerbyCountyinNZ (Talk Contribs) 04:57, 9 August 2025 (UTC)
Alright, you're free to reverse the edit I made if I haven't done so myself. LivinAWestLife (talk) 12:32, 9 August 2025 (UTC)

Lead images

I removed the art gallery image as there are already 5 images of the CBD. The article states 'Auckland has been described as having "the most extensive range of timbered housing with its classical details and mouldings in the world", many of them built in the Victorian and Edwardian eras' and outside the CBD one thing Auckland is known for is the high proportion of old Victorian and Edwardian villas. I don't have any particular preference for the image itself but I do believe we should represent suburban Auckland as the article is not about the CBD but the whole urban area. Agreed. DerbyCountyinNZ (Talk Contribs) 00:38, 9 September 2025 (UTC)
