Article name change
The naming authority, Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh changed the official name of the "Bogra" to "Bogura" today to make the spelling similar to Bangla pronunciation.

common name
Bogura is the common name, not Bogra TrueMoriarty (talk) 15:11, 4 December 2024 (UTC)
- @TrueMoriarty: What evidence do you have that it meets Wikipedia's definition of WP:COMMONNAME? Guideline Wikipedia:Naming conventions (geographic names) explains in depth how to choose among names, including an entire section on establishing a widely accepted name. A few quick observations:
- Both Banglapedia: The National Encyclopedia of Bangladesh and Encyclopædia Britannica still use Bogra..
- A new edition of the Times Atlas of the World was published in 2023. If you like, I can try to get hold of a copy and see what it says.
- Some national newspapers now use Bogura, others still use Bogra. Uptake internationally has probably been slower and spottier.
- Google ngram viewer is of limited value for various reasons, but can give one an idea of how common the two spellings have been. --Worldbruce (talk) 16:02, 4 December 2024 (UTC)
- I don't have any proofs but I am from Bangladesh and I always hear my fellow Bangladeshis saying 'Bogura', not 'Bogra'. TrueMoriarty (talk) 06:35, 5 December 2024 (UTC)
- Yes I'm also Bangladeshi people are saying 'Bogura' 'Bogra' 103.197.153.38 (talk) 14:51, 17 August 2025 (UTC)

Bogra → Bogura – Bogura is also common now. Niasoh ❯❯❯ Wanna chat? 17:58, 13 February 2026 (UTC) — Relisting. Jeffrey34555 (talk) 18:30, 20 February 2026 (UTC) — Relisting. Vestrian24Bio 06:42, 27 February 2026 (UTC)
- @Niasoh: How do you address the bullet points raised the last time this was discussed? Yes, some newspapers use Bogura, but others use Bogra, and some are inconsistent. Are there any encyclopedias that use Bogura? Any atlases? How do you respond to what Google ngram viewer shows? --Worldbruce (talk) 19:13, 13 February 2026 (UTC)

- oppose It is good to revisit this periodically. Guideline Wikipedia:Naming conventions (geographic names) explains in depth how to choose among names, including an entire section on establishing a widely accepted name. Adoption of the official name may have become more uniform within government. Possibly more Bangladeshi newspapers have adopted the new spelling. But Niasoh and Stud.asif's comments do not convince me that Bogura has become the most often used spelling.
- Both Banglapedia: The National Encyclopedia of Bangladesh and Encyclopædia Britannica still use Bogra..
- No widely used atlas, gazetteer, or geographical dictionary uses Bogura.
- Some national newspapers use Bogra, some use Bogura.
- Google ngram viewer still shows that Bogra is far and away the most common spelling.
