Re-defining BI
I agree that the BI industry is changing and quickly. As many companies are being bought up by stack vendors there are as many new companies coming into play. There are a few still surviving on their own and changing the game. Providing new thinking through future technology and innovation will certainly continue to change the industry. These companies include Micro Strategies and IBM Cognos. There are also smaller companies that are niche solutions but these two are the larger ones that are competing with the stack vendors and still maintaining their independence.
Assessment and suggestions for improvement
This article has been assessed as Start‑Class on the quality scale. While it provides a useful overview of business intelligence concepts and functions, it lacks depth in several areas:
- The history section is underdeveloped and does not adequately cover the evolution of BI technologies and practices.
- Coverage of criticisms, limitations, and adoption challenges is minimal.
- Sourcing is uneven, with some reliance on industry/vendor material; more scholarly and secondary sources are needed.
- Sections such as "Functions" are list‑heavy and would benefit from more explanatory prose and synthesis.
To progress toward B‑Class, the article would need:
- Expanded and balanced historical coverage
- Stronger academic and secondary sourcing
- Improved structure and readability (less reliance on lists)
- Inclusion of critical perspectives and limitations
- Additional media/illustrations where appropriate

Merge proposal
I propose merging Business Intelligence Competency Center into Business intelligence. I think the content in SOURCEPAGE can easily be explained in the context of this article, and merging them would not cause any article-size or weighting problems. Duncnbiscuit (talk) 06:46, 28 January 2026 (UTC)
- Since no one has objected after a month, I've merged the articles. Thebiguglyalien (talk) 19:34, 1 March 2026 (UTC)
