Logo for Discovery Family Channel

Questioning the launch date: October 7, 1996 vs. October 22, 1996
I'd like to discuss the launch date currently listed for Discovery Family (formerly Discovery Kids). The article presently states the launch date as October 7, 1996. However, the sources cited for this date, Patrick Parsons' book Blue Skies: A History of Cable Television and a Realscreen article from April 1, 1999 only mention October 1996 as the launch month. I could not find the October 7th date in either of these references.
Interestingly, I reviewed the revision history of the Discovery Kids article to see when this date originated. The date "October 7, 1996" appears to have been introduced in this edit on 22:28, 15 May 2013 by an IP user (81.153.91.50) without any citation provided for the specific day.
Further research led me to this Kidscreen article from October 1, 1996. This article explicitly states that Discovery Kids was scheduled to launch on October 22, 1996. This date aligns well with the "October 1996" timeframe given by the other sources and is supported by a valid source.
Unless there is a reliable source I've missed that confirms the October 7th date, updating this seems like a necessary correction for accuracy. CyaNox (talk) 02:01, 15 May 2025 (UTC)
