Not done: Not seeing how this is an appropriate external link. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 16:39, 18 May 2021 (UTC)
- For clarity, this is Gooden’s website which he uses to promote SquareSpace in ad reads. I agree that this doesn’t warrant inclusion in the external link section (as beloved as it is by his fans), until secondary sources with significant coverage of this website can be used to provide context in the article. - Oppose, he is also very well known for Vine, as well as a live tour. "Comedian" covers everything.--Cerebral726 (talk) 12:36, 1 July 2022 (UTC)

Issues before GAN
I'm planning to nominate this article to GA soon. Just a few issues
- Primary ref 2 doesn't have a timestamp. (solved)
- Amanda's full name is uncited (removed last name)
- Potential source?
- I think it would be good to have a picture of his YouTooz.

Drew Gooden (comedian) → Drew Gooden (YouTuber) – Sources describe Gooden as a YouTuber, YouTube celebrity or Viner-turned-YouTuber. He is, again, currently best-known for his YouTube content (most of the sources are from during his YT career). Just because he did a comedy live show which sprung from his YouTube career does not mean that he is a professional comedian, and searching up gnews for "drew gooden + comedian" (which brings up results containing both terms) does not come up with any sources describing him as such. — VORTEX3427 (Talk!) 01:04, 12 December 2022 (UTC)
- Support Vortex3427's proposal per the multiple reliable sources that describe him as primarily a YouTuber. Although WP:COMMONNAME doesn't exactly apply, the policy does insinuate that we typically name articles based on how the subject is described in reliable sources. Also per WP:CRITERIA, more people recognize him as a YouTuber rather than a traditional comedian, including media outlets, and would intuitively search for him as a YouTuber rather as a comedian, satisfying naturalness. Precision and concision speak for themselves, and it's consistent with other YouTube articles, like Austin Evans (YouTuber). PantheonRadiance (talk) 01:59, 13 December 2022 (UTC)
- He is a comedian, YouTube is just his medium of expressing that form. If a comedian is seen on TV that doesn't make them simply 'a TV personality', they're a comedian. He has a past in doing comedy live on stage, including his tour. He is a professional comedian. Profpig (talk) 00:01, 14 December 2022 (UTC)
- No, he's a professional and now full-time YouTuber, according to NBC News. He does comedy in his videos, but they also commentate on stuff. And he'd probably describe himself as a YouTuber, as that is his occupation. We shouldn't title every funny YouTuber a comedian unless they primarily do (or are known for) their comedy work more than their YouTube work. — VORTEX3427 (Talk!) 06:19, 14 December 2022 (UTC)
- Not to mention, a quick Google News for "Drew Gooden" + "YouTube" yields over 2,000 results, while searching "Drew Gooden" + "Comedian" returns only about 100. I think it's fair to say that more media outlets consider him a YouTuber as his primary occupation now rather than just a mere comedian. PantheonRadiance (talk) 19:50, 16 December 2022 (UTC)

- Support for the above stated reasons. Jokullmusic 03:30, 16 December 2022 (UTC)
- Yes, he's a YouTuber. But he's mainly a comedian, close the discussion, leave things the way they are, and don't demote him to just YouTuber because he's a comedian first and foremost. Sirhewlett (talk) 18:56, 17 December 2022 (UTC)
- @Sirhewlett He's mainly well-known as a YouTuber, and I fail to see how saying he is a YouTuber is in any way a demotion. — VORTEX3427 (Talk!) 02:37, 18 December 2022 (UTC)
Large reversion
@Strugglehouse: @Dyaluk08: I reverted your edits because they added unsourced information and removed section headings.
Regarding the headings: Seperating "Primary sources" from main references is used in PewDiePie. Without the subheadings in "Career" and merging already large paragraphs, it basically looks like a wall of text. The merging of early and personal life is used in many other articles and a similar article and I used it here because I felt that they were short enough that they could be in a single article. Also see MOS:OVERSECTION.
Examples of unsourced information introduced:
...due to their vaguely similar physical appearances.
This is entirely subjective. The NBC News source it cites says instead "...followers would pretend to confuse them."He is also known for referring to his fans by the singular noun "guy" as a parody of the usual method of YouTubers beginning each video by saying "hey guys".
Entirely unsupported by the NBC News source. There is actually a source which discusses this, but seeing as it is a thesis, I'm hesitant to include it
Video quotations in the AV media citations are unnesscesary if we already have timestamps.
Also, Strugglehouse, if you disagree with the choice of lede image, feel free to discuss it here. The reason I'm policing this article so much is that this is currently a WP:GAN and I want to keep it at the same quality.
Thanks, — VORTEX3427 (Talk!) 02:59, 28 December 2022 (UTC)

Hi Vortex3427! I've got a passing familiarity with Gooden's work and can take a look at this one.
Good Article review progress box
|
- Prose (1a)
- "His content ranges from discussing the difficulty for an internet celebrity to break into mainstream media[10] (as with Lilly Singh and her criticized talk show A Little Late with Lilly Singh)[4][18] to Jake and Logan Paul,[5] TikTok creators,[19] and bad movie reviews." This list feels a bit muddled. Maybe rephrase slightly (and trim the Singh parenthetical): "Topics of discussion in Gooden's videos have included the difficulties faced by internet celebrities attempting to break into mainstream media, the brothers Jake and Logan Paul, TikTok creators, and bad movies." Or similar!
- Relaiable sources (2b)
- All looks good; I appreciate the indication of primary sources and feel they're broadly used appropriately.
- Original resources (2c)
- Where does the "2016" in the infobox "Years active" come from?
- Focus (3b)
- There are two instances where the Wired interview source is cited to bits that feel largely trivial:
- "To his surprise, his name was announced while he was watching the show with his wife."
- "A running joke between Gooden's fans is that he is the creator of YouTube."
- I'd trim both of these absent more substantial coverage of the importance of either point.
- Neutrality (4)
- Can "although it would be also called 'passably funny'" be changed to include mention that this was in The Atlantic in text to confer weight to what otherwise might read as a passing comment?
All in all this is quite close, just a few little bits to tidy up here and then it'll be good to go. Thanks for your work on this! Please do ping me with any questions and/or once you've implemented these changes. —Collint c 18:02, 8 January 2023 (UTC)

Done! "Years active" is 2016 as that was when he first uploaded to YouTube, although those were just several short comedy sketches. — VORTEX3427 (Talk!) 22:10, 9 January 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks Vortex3427 for implementing these comments! Running a spot-check on sources now:
- "The two were engaged in 2016,[P 5]" → "Last April a girl commented on one of my vines. She lived 2000 miles away. Now we are engaged & live in the same house. All because of @vine"

- "Growing up, Gooden wanted to write for Saturday Night Live." → "I grew up wanting to be on SNL or at least write for SNL."

- "By the time Vine closed in January 2017, Gooden had amassed several hundred thousand followers. Besides a small Twitter account, he had no other online followings and decided to migrate to YouTube alongside many other Viners." → "“I went from having no presence whatsoever online to having a couple hundred thousand followers,” he said. When Vine shuttered in 2017, Gooden found himself starting his internet career over. His only other social media following was on a Twitter account with about a thousand followers, and with no other path to tread, he decided to give YouTube a try." + "Today he's a full-time YouTuber with a commentary channel on pop culture."

- "Gooden's breakout video was a June 2018 review of Jake Paul's live show, which he was highly critical of. Unlike his other videos, which then averaged one hundred thousand views, the Paul video was viewed four million times in one month." → "(June 2018) ... Without a doubt, the video that blew up my channel was when I went to a Jake Paul concert. My other videos were doing like 100,000 views, and that one did 4 million in a month." + "Gooden ... had the perfect snarky commentary accompanying the break down."

- "Paste described his videos as his "own comedic version of investigative journalism".[17]" → "Via their work, I’ve learned about so many corners of the internet that are new sources of Unending Hate for me, but I know that through their own comedic version of investigative journalism, they’re waking up teens that might have once just inherently believed the reality of these influencers and their community."

- "The two were engaged in 2016,[P 5]" → "Last April a girl commented on one of my vines. She lived 2000 miles away. Now we are engaged & live in the same house. All because of @vine"
- Looks good here. I'm happy to pass this one! Great work. —Collint c 22:52, 9 January 2023 (UTC)

– Daily page views are about twice as many as those of the athlete. Both exist contemporarily, so I don't think there's any recency bias. Google searches for "Drew Gooden" with no additional words turned up exclusively content on the YouTuber. It's hard to gauge because of all the navboxes, but the YouTuber also seems to have more inbound page links when navboxes are discounted. I think there is sufficient evidence that most people looking for "Drew Gooden" are looking for the YouTuber and not the basketball player. At the very least, I think there is enough evidence that the basketball player is not the primary topic of "Drew Gooden", nor the person most people typing in "Drew Gooden" are looking for. Ten Pound Hammer • (What did I screw up now?) 17:58, 15 August 2025 (UTC)
- Oppose 1, support 2. Both notable; no primary topic. 162 etc. (talk) 20:12, 15 August 2025 (UTC)
- Oppose 1, support 2 I agree neither is the primary topic and “Drew Gooden” should be a DAB page. The basketball player was one of the top college basketball players of 2002 for one of the highest profile programs. He is no longer an active player after a long NBA career, which accounts for why his page does not get as many views as an active inflencer. Rikster2 (talk) 18:03, 16 August 2025 (UTC)
- Oppose 1st, support 2nd and create dabpage at basename. No primary topic. -- Necrothesp (talk) 10:53, 21 August 2025 (UTC)

- Drew Gooden (YouTuber) → Drew Gooden (internet personality)
- Chris O'Neill (YouTuber) → Chris O'Neill (internet personality)
- Jarvis Johnson (YouTuber) → Jarvis Johnson (internet personality)
- Issei (YouTuber) → Issei (internet personality)
– WP:NCPDAB states "Avoid using abbreviations or anything capitalized". "YouTuber" is capitalized. These 4 articles concern people whose work includes platforms other than YouTube. "Internet personality" captures the fact they began their careers online, and are still best-known for their online content. I don't see any obvious more specific disambiguators for these 4 (e.g. Dream (streamer) might be a more appropriate move for Dream (YouTuber)). Neegzistuoja (talk) 11:17, 27 April 2026 (UTC)
- Further discussion on "YouTuber" as a disambiguator in general, not just for these 4 articles, would be welcome at Wikipedia talk:Naming conventions (people)#RfC on company names in BLP disambiguation tags Neegzistuoja (talk) 11:18, 27 April 2026 (UTC)
- Wait. User:Neegzistuoja is the one who proposed the RFC; that discussion is currently ongoing and there is no clear consensus. The best place to discuss this is at said RFC, not here. 162 etc. (talk) 16:09, 27 April 2026 (UTC)
- Yes, acknowledging I did create that RfC and it hasn't yet been closed, but it had been active for nearly a month with only 3 editors responding. I hoped this might draw more attention to it. Based on the discussion so far, I thought there would be support for the moves proposed here. Apologies for my impatience - I was just trying to foster more discussion, not intending to bypass proper protocol. Neegzistuoja (talk) 22:02, 27 April 2026 (UTC)
- Comment: Disambiguation terms that contain capitalization aren't that uncommon. The names of cities, countries, bands, sports teams, video games, films, television shows, ethnic groups, demonyms, specific institutions, and many other things are capitalized. It seems like a general rule-of-thumb, but not a strong prohibition. — BarrelProof (talk) 20:31, 28 April 2026 (UTC)
- Comment: Should the word "Internet" be capitalized? That is a point of division. Either way, same view as BarrelProof. ZeroJaguar (talk) 18:53, 29 April 2026 (UTC)
