Usage of Edinburgh Gazette source on this page

There is a citation to the Edinburgh Gazette to "support" information about the presumed current holder. This is essentially a classified advertisement listing and cannot be deemed independent of the source, so should be removed in accordance to BLP policy. The Edinburgh Gazette has certain rules about some types of notices they publish, which they verify, but notices like this do not come under their editorial purview. Removal of BLP information

I have unfortunately had to remove further citations and details related to the presumed current "holder" of this title. As this page has information about living persons, the sources must be verifiable. The references I removed were attributed to the Burkes and Debretts Wikipedia pages, with no further detail, thus it is not a source that can be independently verified. If editors wish to add this information back to the piece, please be sure that the sources you use are verifiable, and independent of the person. For more information on how to choose good sources for BLPs, please check out Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons Nayyn (talk) 19:08, 20 June 2025 (UTC)

I've re-added brief information about the current holder, with proper attributions from Burke's and Debrett's. Daniel Plumber (talk) Choisir d'avancer 09:32, 21 June 2025 (UTC)

Notability

I do not think this title fulfills WP:GNG. As there does not appear to be WP:SIGCOV of this title. Since there are not notability guidelines for random titles, I think WP:ORGSIG and WP:INHERITORG are the closest that apply here. Good faith redirects by @Fram have been reverted by @Daniel Plumber, Plumber, can you provide some WP:RS that provide significant coverage here? I'm not seeing any. I would say that WP:BURKES qualifies as such. In my view, the notability of the holder should not affect the article as a whole. Regarding whether the title itself is notable, I would argue that Burke's makes it a noteworthy viewpoint worth including. If by "notable" one means widespread recognition like press coverage, I could easily point to other peerage articles with the same issue as this one.
The problem is that this very issue has persisted in too many peerage articles, to the point where I assumed it was the norm. Therefore, I don't think it makes sense to hold this article to such a high standard if others with the same issue are not even being discussed. A listing in WP:BURKES is not Significant Coverage. Wikipedia is not a directory, and just because it is a thing that exists in the world does not make it notable if there is not significant coverage to deem it important this encyclopedia. The suggestion that, other pages are not being discussed for the same claims does not help the argument here. Many of those pages should also be looked at. Nayyn (talk) 15:10, 30 July 2025 (UTC)
