– The disambiguation term here seems to define a category (i.e., canons of Windsor), and therefore to be a common noun that should not be capitalized. Alternatively, it is a title. Do we capitalize titles used as disambiguation terms? We seem to generally not ordinarily capitalize "bishop of X" as a disambiguation term, although I found 34 article titles that do. (There are 865 that don't.) Otherwise, we should capitalize the disambiguation terms of Hugh Pearson (canon of Windsor) and John Stokes (canon of Windsor). This proposed renaming would revert two moves by Steel1943 on 6 April 2020. The edit summary offered for those moves was only "Capital C", without a rationale for the choice. — BarrelProof (talk) 01:37, 29 January 2026 (UTC)
- Comment: My guess is that I did it as a "majority rules" match. Otherwise, I have no idea. Steel1943 (talk) 01:49, 29 January 2026 (UTC)
- It appears that both Hugh Pearson (canon of Windsor) and John Stokes (canon of Windsor) were moved to those titles after your moves of 6 April 2020, so your moves achieved consistency among canons of Windsor at the time. — BarrelProof (talk) 01:53, 29 January 2026 (UTC)
- Comment: We have 247 "(archbishop of X)" and only 5 "(Archbishop of X)" – namely Danilo II (Archbishop of Serbs), Anselm Franz von Ingelheim (Archbishop of Mainz), John II (Archbishop of Novgorod), George III of Cyprus (Archbishop of Cyprus) and Étienne Poncher (Archbishop of Tours). — BarrelProof (talk) 01:57, 29 January 2026 (UTC)
- And there are no other "(Canon of X)" titles. For lowercase, there are John King (canon of Westminster), Benedict (canon of St. Peter's) and David Evans (canon at St Asaph) and eight "(canon)" without "of X". Perhaps these should just be Edward Jones (canon), Edward Moore (canon), etc. — BarrelProof (talk) 04:28, 31 January 2026 (UTC)
- Support: We should follow MOS:JOBTITLE here like we do elsewhere, though there are plenty of those which have not been fixed. It is a thankless job. SchreiberBike | ⌨ 22:22, 29 January 2026 (UTC)

Follow-up comment: I have also moved all of the "(Bishop of ...)" and "(Archbishop of ...)" articles to use lowercase. I also submitted an RM for all of the titles that use "(Mayor of ...)". — BarrelProof (talk) 21:12, 5 February 2026 (UTC)
