Roberto Baggio

Most shootouts, kicker, all-time & Most losses, kicker, all-time

3, Roberto Baggio, Flag of Italy Italy (1990 semi-final, 1994 final, 1998 quarter final)

It's false, because Roberto Baggio has scored the penalties that he kicked in the '90s semi-final (against Argentina) and in '98 (against France).

It is clear that says: "Most consecutive tournaments as coach with the same team". Herberger made that record because the 4 consecutive tournaments of Germany were 1938; 54, 58 and 62. They hadn't a chance at 1950 ELC70 (talk) 17:01, 1 July 2026 (UTC)

sorting

I wanted to fix sorting the Overall team records table by GD (goal difference). I mean that long table with 82+2 rows (excluding the header). It appears that it was already fixed in the version directly before mine though broken 2 and 3 revisions before mine. Therefore, it might be OK to revert my changes. I have no idea which sign is correct for the mathematical minus. For me, it can be any horizontal bar with correct sorting/order. Grillofrances (talk) 23:07, 15 June 2026 (UTC)

I just switched them all to the minus sign from the math toolbar. Sorting seems to be fine and meets MOS:NEGATIVE. Wburrow (talk) 23:12, 15 June 2026 (UTC)
Thanks. I have even no idea how to simply generate − (char code 8722) on my keyboard. I can press Ctrl+Shift+U, and then 2212 (hexadecimal), which is a bit complex.
I can generate easily these signs:
  • - (hyphen; 45 char code; seems to be the most common; works as minus in JavaScript, Python, Ruby)
  • – (en dash; 8211 char code)
  • — (em dash; 8212 char code)
On the other hand, I can see that the plus sign in the table is just 43 char code (which is just a part of ASCII). Grillofrances (talk) 23:48, 15 June 2026 (UTC)

All-time medal table - to be reviewed

i would suggest to review this table and indicate the records for the most titles and runner up. World Cup is not Olympic games with medals. The FIFA World Cup operates as a title-based competition rather than a medal aggregation model like the Olympics, so the evaluation should be driven by “wins” and “final appearances” as primary metrics rather than medal equivalents. Thanks ~2026-36957-81 (talk) 21:21, 26 June 2026 (UTC)

We could reuse the same table from the FIFA World Cup page: “Teams reaching the top 4”. Tucotuti (talk) 12:09, 29 June 2026 (UTC)
I agree with this  The idea behind a standalone stats page like this is to move excessive stats off the main page (see WP:NOTSTATS). It doesn't make sense that the stats-page version of a table would be less detailed than the version on the main page. Wburrow (talk) 14:13, 29 June 2026 (UTC)
I agree, it is more detailed and more suitable for this page. I would suggest a simple transclusion of the table from the main page so it doesn't have to be maintained in two places Miria~01 (talk) 15:51, 29 June 2026 (UTC)

Overall rankig

The overall table contains duplicate entries involving Slovakia and the Czech Republic. The Czechs are the successors to Czechoslovakia (Bohemia, 1901), whereas Slovakia founded its national association in 1938. The focus here is on national associations rather than countries. The totals in these tables—wins, losses, goals scored, and goals conceded—must balance out. I am certain this needs to be corrected. ELC70 (talk) 16:57, 1 July 2026 (UTC)

The Netherlands unnbeaten streak has not ended in 2026. It is still ongoing, since they lost on penalties again.

Plus I would personally also add a seperate unbeaten streak without overtime (within 90 mins + stoppage time), since group stage matches and knockout matches don't have the same rules for overtime. ~2026-38123-12 (talk) 12:01, 4 July 2026 (UTC)

Not done: It looks like the article is using "–2026" throughout, even in cases where a streak is still ongoing. The record for longest unbeaten streak in regular time has now been added. Day Creature (talk) 17:08, 5 July 2026 (UTC)

Mistake in Australia global ranking

I don't know how to fix it, it is just a little mistake. In table says that Australia has 14 lost match (5-6-14) and 24 matches. It's alright but losses, that are 13. ELC70 (talk) 19:45, 4 July 2026 (UTC)

Longest goalless streak in minute (542') by Algeria are wrong?

The page reports "Longest goalless streak in minutes: 542 minutes by Algeria (1986–2014)", but I think the minutes are not correct. In fact, in 1986 the last (and unique) goal by Algeria before the streak starts was made by Djamel Zidane at 59' in the first match against Northern Ireland, 31 minutes before the end of the match. 90' + 90' followed without goals scored against Brazil and Spain. In 2010 no goals were made (+270'). In 2014, in the first match against Belgium, the streak concludes at 25' (penalty scored by Feghouli). so, the total amount of minutes are: 31' + 180' + 270' + 25' = 506' (not 542' as reported in the page). What do you think? Is this a mistake? Someone can check and eventually correct? Hooker47 (talk) 12:34, 7 July 2026 (UTC)

Goalkeeper Shobeir really saved 2 penalties in 2026 edition?

The page reports that the goalkeeper of Egypt Mostafa Shobeir saved 2 penalties during FIFA World Cup 2026. The link mentioned as the source of info (https://as.ro/fotbal/campionatul-mondial-2026/mostafa-shobeir-doar-al-patrulea-din-istoria-cupei-mondiale-care-reuseste-asta-ce-s-a-intamplat-in-jocul-cu-argentina-664580.html) refers to the penalty saved against Messi, but doesn't mention any other penalty. What is the other penalty he supposedly saved? I’ve looked but couldn't find anything... Hooker47 (talk) 08:58, 8 July 2026 (UTC)

Most matches drawn: Steve Staunton (Ireland) should be added

Under "Most matches drawn", together with Cristiano Ronaldo and Luka Modric, I think you should add Steve Staunton too, who also drew 8 of his 13 matches with Ireland. 4 of these draws came at the 1990 World Cup in Italy (all three group matches plus the round of 16 match against Romania, which they won on penalties). He added one draw in 1994 (against Norway) and three in 2002 (against Cameroon, Germany, and the round of 16 match against Spain, which they lost on penalties). Staunton played in all the 8 matches drawn. Thanks Hooker47 (talk) 19:21, 8 July 2026 (UTC)

Coach Sepp Herberger led Germany in 4 World Cup editions (1938, 1954, 1958, 1962)

Hi, according to this Wikipedia page (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_managers_at_the_FIFA_World_Cup), coach Sepp Herberger led the German national team in 4 World Cup editions (1938, 1954, 1958 and 1962, the last three as West Germany). For him and for Germany, these are 4 consecutive editions with the same team at the World Cup. However, they aren't actually 4 consecutive World Cups, as Germany didn't participate in 1950. So, my question is: do you think Herberger should be added to the list "Most consecutive tournaments as a coach with the same team" = 4 editions (along with Deschamps, Winterbottom and Schön)? Maybe yes, in my opinion. What do you think? Hooker47 (talk) 08:05, 9 July 2026 (UTC)

Yes, I think the editions should be consecutive World Cups themselves, not just consecutive appearances by the same national team. Since Germany didn't participate in the 1950 World Cup, Herberger's sequence was interrupted, so I don't think he should be included in that list. Mishary94 (talk) 16:32, 9 July 2026 (UTC)
@Mishary94 Okay, your opinion is reasonable. Since the same issue applies not only to Herberger but also to Lajos Baroti and Oscar Tabarez (who led Hungary and Uruguay, respectively, to four non-consecutive World Cups), I'd suggest adding a statistic called "Most tournaments as a coach with the same team," which includes Winterbottom, Schön, Deschamps, Herberger, Baroti, and Tabarez, all of whom played four tournaments with the same team. Below that, I'd leave unchanged the statistic "Most CONSECUTIVE tournaments, etc." This is my little suggestion, what do you think about? Hooker47 (talk) 14:30, 16 July 2026 (UTC)

Add 2 players who scored in all matches of a single tournament

Hi, at the line "Goal scored in all matches (single tournament)", along with Ghiggia and Jairzinho, the following players need to be added: - Just Fontaine, for France (1958) scored in 6/6 matches; - György Sárosi, for Hungary (1938), scored in 4/4 matches. You can easily check this stats. Bye Hooker47 (talk) 10:12, 15 July 2026 (UTC)

You're right, according to the source (FIFA): "[scoring] in every match en route to the trophy." So they only counted the eventual winners. But both players you mention also scored in every game possible, so I think is worth adding them. Tucotuti (talk) 02:49, 16 July 2026 (UTC)
@Tucotuti I agree. So, since I haven't any editing rights, could you please add them? Thanks, bye Hooker47 (talk) 14:14, 16 July 2026 (UTC)
ta´han you should add dozents of players. for example every play who scored in the round of 16 in 1934 und 1938 from the team who lost. the team made only 1 game, so the players scored in every possible game Future-Trunks (talk) 06:42, 21 July 2026 (UTC)
I have changed the title because it was too vague, as described by users:
  • "Goals scored in all matches (single tournament)" -> "Goals scored in every match en route to the final/third-place match (single tournament)"

Assists

I know, assists are a minefield. I for one would not cover them, since they were not very popular until recently. But I understand most editors agree to keep them. However, the opening note is contradictory. The text states statistics are "based on the assists criteria according to Opta" and "reviewed strictly according to Opta standards," but then acknowledges figures differ from Opta because Opta only covers tournaments from 1966 onward, while this article includes records from 1930 (e.g., Kopa's 1958 record cited in the opening).

This creates confusion: Are we following Opta's criteria or not? If we're deviating from Opta for pre-1966 data, what methodology are we using instead, and why isn't that explained upfront? The section needs clarification on which standard applies to which era of data. Tucotuti (talk) 03:08, 16 July 2026 (UTC)

I agree, it's very confusingly written.
What the note is trying to say is that Opta criteria are applied also retrospectively even before 1966, which Opta Analyst in their articles, records and statistics doesn't include. However, other media outlets and relevant sources can apply the criteria defined by Opta retrospectively; this is how the figure of 8 assists for Raymond Kopa (1958)—which TNT Sports analyzed retrospectively—came about.
Opta Analyst, however, will continue to treat all pre-1966 assists as non-existent.
Here lies the controversy:
The following figures may differ from the relevant sources, including Opta itself, as Opta, for example, only covers tournaments from the 1966 edition onward...
This point simply means that when using Opta as a source, discrepancies could arise with the information on Wikipedia. An example would be if Opta refers to "Most Assists of all-time," but actually only means "Most assists of all-time from 1966 onward."
However, I must add that this discrepancy practically never arises when using Opta as a source, since they always explicitly state "from 1966 onward" in their articles. Miria~01 (talk) 16:08, 21 July 2026 (UTC)
Update: I have simplified the note and hopefully made it more understandable (Diff), including a source for the Opta criteria . Miria~01 (talk) 17:11, 21 July 2026 (UTC)
