Instead of "Scottish breed of retriever dog of medium size," Scottish retriever is a dog breed of medium size. Quissie (talk) 14:19, 6 February 2024 (UTC)

You want 'Scottish retriever is a dog breed of medium size' to be in the introduction? Traumnovelle (talk) 18:37, 6 February 2024 (UTC)
Not done: I'm afraid I have to disagree with this. Merely searching "Scottish retriever" seems to prove minimal relevant results. (Google) I can't say this dog is often referred to as the "Scottish retriever". However, it is a dog breed of Scottish origin. So, to me, the current introduction is fine. Consider WP:CON?

Grammatical error throughout

The entire article includes incorrect capitalization of both words, “Golden Retriever.” This is grammatically incorrect according to MLA, AP, and Wikipedia styleguides. My edit was reverted with a note saying I need to request an RM. I am new to editing Wikipedia and don’t understand why a straightforward correction of a patent grammatical error would be controversial or how to go about requesting an RM. MOS:COMMONNAMES says "Names of standardized animal breeds should generally retain the capitalization used in the breed standards (German Shepherd)." The breed standards from the American Kennel Club, the United Kennel Club and the Golden Retriever Club of Canada all capitalize both words of the breed name. So I think the article as it currently stands is correct. CodeTalker (talk) 19:03, 9 July 2025 (UTC)

I think you should add an external link to the American Kennel Club Golden Retriever page to the first word "Golden Retriever" -https://www.akc.org/dog-breeds/golden-retriever/ CapFlow (talk) 14:30, 12 August 2025 (UTC)

Not done: Generally, external links in the prose of the article are avoided. Links to the kennel club standards are included in the infobox. Link to the AKC standards are in footnote 14. meamemg (talk) 15:45, 12 August 2025 (UTC)

Use vs roles

It doesn't really matter, but "Use" seems a little bizarre to me (grammatically) because the article is not about an inanimate object, like a fork. Curious about how common it is in terms of English phrasing. Luna (talk) 05:14, 14 January 2026 (UTC)

There are 342,000 results when you Google "uses of dog", including in academic works. https://academic.oup.com/af/article/4/3/23/4638686
A statement along the lines of 'the uses of the Labrador Retriever include' is not unnatural to me. Traumnovelle (talk) 20:16, 14 January 2026 (UTC)
