Is the presumed author

Homer is the presumed author of the Iliad and Odyssey. Although Homer has long since died, his association with the two epics as their author lives to this day. The presumption of his authorship is ongoing in the present. To say that he was the presumed author of the Iliad and Odyssey implies that people once thought he was, but now the consensus is that he isn't. The first line should be edited to reflect the grammatical distinction.

I added Homer’s birthplace and non-literary language

Btw, none of it is original research. Most sources come from https://study.com or a wiki article

Homer's birthplace was likely Ionia (s: obviously from study.com) and Homer's non-literary language was likely ionic.

Because if Homer was from Ionia he obviously spoke ionic, and Homeric Greek was a literary language, this is implied in areas of this article and obviously in the Homeric Greek article. Homeric Greek combines various dialects but given the fact a dialect of Ionic is dominant in the language, it also backs this up.

And before anyone asks "Oh what's the name of the article that stated that Homer was likely born in Ionia" I obviously cited the name on the quick facts, and I done research from other websites (not notable in this context), not all of them (but some of them) didn't exactly state Homer was born in Ionia, but it was normally a region pretty close to there. Confusing tag

I tagged article with {{Confusing}}. Reasoning is that the lead, especially first sentence, gives impression that he's agreed to have been a historical person, but body indirectly implies he isn't. Also article could be oriented to make it even clearer that he's widely agreed to not have been an actual person. grapesurgeon (seefooddiet) (talk) 00:15, 4 August 2025 (UTC)

Why does Maeonides redirect here?

Not mentioned in the article. No definition given. 2A00:23C5:FE1C:3701:7563:5B9B:BBF8:16C1 (talk) 15:15, 19 August 2025 (UTC)
