Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Classical Greece and Rome

We have citations in 30+ articles of www.roman-emperors.org, which is not now a site focused on Roman emperors and I think may have been hijacked; it does have a few articles about Roman topics but they're not WP:SCHOLARSHIP and quite possibly LLM generated along with the other stuff about car insurance etc.

However much of the original content, but not the footnotes, seems to be at https://roman-emperors.sites.luc.edu/ which says "prepared by scholars ... peer- reviewed for quality and accuracy" and the stated authors of e.g. this article on Eudocia Ingenira, which we cite in Constantine (son of Basil I) are Lynda Garland and Shaun Tougher, both professors now.

Before I go wild changing or removing citations, are we comfortable with https://roman-emperors.sites.luc.edu/ as a WP:RS? NebY (talk) 23:47, 26 June 2026 (UTC)

The article on De Imperatoribus Romanis, which is what the URL is, quotes Noel Emmanuel Lenski, ed. (2006). The Cambridge Companion to the Age of Constantine. Vol. 13. Cambridge University Press. p. 106. the articles on pertinent emperors in De Imperatoribus Romanis offer sound overviews and a regularly updated bibliography (italics original). I've kept it simple and just updated the links on all three files I could find on Commons, and I updated four articles missed by the bots for WP:URLREQ#roman-emperors.org (Special:Diff/1367511727, Special:Diff/1367509056, Special:Diff/1367507214, Special:Diff/1367505693, found by searching insource:"roman-emperors.org" -insource:"emperors.sites.luc.edu"). While not strictly within the scope of this discussion, I've also updated two Wikiquote pages. With all that, this issue should be resolved for now. According to Porphyry's account, between the death of Sosthenes and the accession of Antigonus II an "Arrhidaeus" and a "Ptolemy" held some power in the kingdom of Macedonia. The thing is that those two could likely be associated to two figures we already know held some power at an unknown time: Alexander and Ptolemy, the sons of Lysimachus.

This theory doesn't come from nowhere, both are mentionned as reigning in the kingdom of Macedonia (according to Diodorus Siculus at some point and I've seen Alexander being referred as "Arrhideus". Now I just wanted to share this idea because while this could be a coincidence, it's worth looking into.
