I suggest changing "Jehovah's Witnesses is" to "Jehovah's Witnesses are" because it is better grammar. Fancy Fox Jr (talk) 06:29, 16 July 2026 (UTC)
No. Grammatically it is not better. This has been discussed many times. See here. But for ease, the relevant section is:
- When referring to the denomination as a whole, Jehovah's Witnesses is a singular proper noun (in the same manner as any other organisation or product name containing a plural form):
- (Correct) Jehovah's Witnesses is a religious denomination (the verb is agrees with the singular proper noun Jehovah's Witnesses and the singular noun denomination)
- (Incorrect) Jehovah's Witnesses are a religious denomination (the verb are disagrees with the singular noun denomination)

- I saw the link you provided, and the singular proper noun is correct. Fancy Fox Jr (talk) 15:44, 16 July 2026 (UTC)
- Five Jehovah's Witnesses is walking down the street. The first one says to the second one, "Are we singular or plural? " Walter Ego 14:37, 29 August 2026 (UTC)
- So... if you're using "is", that suggests there were five separate denominations, each called Jehovah's Witnesses, and they were walking... that is confusing.
- If you're talking about five members of the one denomination, you would say they are walking.
- Would you say "Hogan's Heroes is a television series" or "Hogan's Heroes are a television series"?--Jeffro77 Talk 07:34, 3 September 2026 (UTC)
- It would be "Hogan's Heroes is a television series," not "Hogan's Heroes are a television series." Fancy Fox Jr (talk) 18:31, 3 September 2026 (UTC)
- Yes. Here's hoping Roxy the dog (talk · contribs) (aka Walter Ego) understands the point.--Jeffro77 Talk 07:25, 4 September 2026 (UTC)
- Fraid not, but no need to explain anything to me. just note that in my eyes, the OP is correct, Witnesses are not singular. - Walter Ego 07:53, 4 September 2026 (UTC)
- If you're talking about the denomination itself, you would say something like "Jehovah's Witnesses is a Christian denomination," but when referring to the members, it would be something like "A group of Jehovah's Witnesses walked down the street." Fancy Fox Jr (talk) 19:35, 4 September 2026 (UTC)
