I hope I am doing this RfC Correctly, This RfC is two-fold, First, user:cyanmax keeps reverting and disputing any notion of Poland's Transcription of foreign same sex marriages being binding or meaningful. Currently marriages from other EU Countries are transcribed as standard marriages, And the following is already confirm

ZUS (Health Insurance and General Benifiets (Including Retirement) Has begun to treat these transcribed marriages as regular marriages, Meaning that spouses can receive their partners Insurance and benefits from Death ^[1]

It is worth noting that also many large cities such as Warsaw, Gdansk and Krakow (and more) accept these marriages so couples in a same sex marriage are able to get work benefits and presumably family leave for a sick spouse ^[2]

Obviously it is impossible to know what every work place, public or private will accept, however major cities accepting this is all meaningful

I could attach many more sources for smaller things, but I believe ZUS accepting these transcriptions is extremely major towards either giving poland a new color for EU law or making it deep purple.

Secondly, I would like to ask if the article should be kept as is, With Poland being Dark Purple (if not revert), Or how I changed it to match the Same Sex Marriage map.

Anyways, I am a newer editor and feel unequipped to deal with such a large change on my own, However I see many other editors asking for this change on several pages.

I think one relevant issue to both of your concerns is whether the new policies providing more benefits to same-sex couples are national policies or mainly enforced in major cities like you mentioned. If the reliable sources treat the new changes as national and more permanent changes, then I'd say the characterization on this page could be changed. If reliable sources treat them as initial steps or choices made by some but not all cities, then the status quo might be appropriate. 23impartial (talk) 21:55, 24 May 2026 (UTC)

As far as I am aware, Marriage in Poland can be transcribed in two ways, Through a city or through the church.

Ignoring the church, The presumption is now that if a city transcribes a marriage it is Valid for the whole country

ZUS is our Goverment Retirement, Healthcare and Disability, It is national and will accept these marriages

So far every big city in Poland has begun transcibing these marriages from other EU Countries, The only City that hasn't is Zakopane, However it is a small city and as of now is the exception rather then the norm, We still had the United States listed as Same-Same-Sex Marriage Legal even though a few clerks refused to honor them, So I feel right now we should go with the consensus that they are Allowed in Poland

The only big "right" These couples do not have to my knowledge is the ability to Adopt, however there are a handful of other countries on the map that do not allow same Sex adoption but are dark blue MillieBeatle (talk) 13:48, 26 May 2026 (UTC)

You brought up a good point that once a city transcribes a marriage, the marriage is recognized nationwide. I think one difference here is that many nations listed have their own mechanisms that confer marriage. I think transcribing or transferring is still different. Putting my thoughts aside, it's more important to see what reliable sources have said. The sources listed here only say that "Zus Begins to accept" or "Warsaw Accepts first", which I believe may not amount to completely legal. The government of Poland itself has announced that it will begin recognizing these marriages preformed elsewhere in the EU

I still believe Poland should be in Green as it does not apply to all foreign Marriages, only EU Marriages

I think it's fine to consider it legal in Poland, especially considering that this page doesn't specifically define "legal," whether in terms of recognition of marriage in other countries or local recognition.

I have just finished polishing, adding sources, and editing templates for the changes as I see no one else (Including Cyanmax) Arguing against these chances in this RFC for over a week now

There is Dark Purple, however it does not fit as Poland only accepts marriages from other EU countries, Therefore I lifted a templete that is already used in The same sex marriage map (Referring to court orders)

I have separated Poland, who currently has begun transcribing marriages from other EU countries, Into a category of Following EU Court orders

Slovakia, Romania, and Bulgaria are given their own category, If there really is too many categories, I suggest this should be the one to go while the one for Poland stays intact

I do not think it is absurd to have a category for a single nation, Extraterritorial marriages are currently only used for Israel or a few island nations

You had a limited discussion with just a single user and somehow believe a consensus has been reached. Wait until more users express their views and it is actually achieved. The map standard and color legend are managed on Wikimedia Commons. Changing the entire color criteria affects every single Wikipedia project globally, so a tiny discussion on a specific Wikipedia article talk page cannot dictate a global map change. Most users didn't even notice you were having a private little discussion here.

We already have light purple for limited foreign recognition, and that could be used for any country, not just a few EU countries. We could simply keep using that existing light purple color instead of adding a new green specifically for Poland. Not to mention that coloring Romania, Bulgaria, and Slovakia light green is clearly crystal-balling and original research, because we do not even know whether those governments will actually comply. There has already been plenty of controversy in Poland, and the process certainly was not smooth, so I do not think we should jump ahead of the game. If Romania, Bulgaria, and Slovakia announce compliance and begin transcribing certificates, as Poland recently did, then we can color them accordingly. But for now, that would be WP:CRYSTAL WP:NOR. First of all, I would ask next time that you please engage in the RfC or talk page instead of Reverting my edits with a simple "what a mess". Yes, the situation with Poland is a mess, I waited a week, You could have voiced your reasoning at any point here, yet you chose to revert my countless edits when I had updated everything

Also, You yourself know that Me and the other users are not another one, There were two comments on the Talk page for this article and the File, as well as someone who commented on your talk page to update Poland, You have archived this discussion, but if I remember you said, quite rudely, "I am busy, do it yourself". I took the effort to correct this article with sources, and you decided to instantly revert the edits. I have seen 5 or 6 users all asking for Poland to be Updated

The fact on the ground is these are "Marriages", not just "Limited recognition (residency)". I provided an article (in polish) that stated ZUS is now treating this marriages as any other, This means Same-Sex couples get the same monetary benefits from retirement and medical care as straight couples. There are also other sources that state that most, if not all (Bar the small city of Zakopane) Cities and polish Institutions are accepting these changes, I think we should ignore Zakopane as we did not revert the United States to Grey just when a single clerk decided to not grant a same sex marriage. The only explicit right that these marriages do not have is Adoption, however we have included nations who did not allow adoption, but did allow same sex marriage, as dark blue before.

The fact is, Poland accepts same sex marriage from other countries and now treats them as any other marriage within Poland, the government has provided a guideline for the transcription of marriages and the Prime Minister has not made any attempt to block these. I have provided countless sources yet you have not provided a single one.

Poland is a special situation, Dark Purple does not fit because Poland only accepts marriages from other EU Countries, However, Calling it Limited recognition is laughable, They are treated as equal to other marriages minus adoption.

The Polish page for LGBT Rights in Poland has it all spelled out, There are some that may have to be challenged in court, however you are Crystalballing by assuming the court will strike them down, as currently everything points to these marriages being treated equally.

Also the argument of not changing something because "It effects all wikipedias" confuses me, Isn't the point that we want all new information to be updated as soon as possible? I have provided many many sources and many other users on talk pages have requested this, you yourself told another user to fix it themselves, and now you are reverting all the edits I have made in good faith and only providing quick remarks like "what a mess"

I would ask for meditation later on unless other users chime in to voice their disapproval to accept Poland's current status of allowing same sex marriage. But for now this RfC should surfice, I hope you can reply honestly and bring up my points, I am willing to concede that my Edits were wrong, however I have not seen any sourcing saying Poland does not accept same-sex marriages from abroad, I also want my other points addressed

I would like to bring up two other points I would like addressed from you.

How is this original research? Is me searching articles, the ZUS website and watching polish News "original research?". Isn't this just plain research? I am confused why you have added that this is what is occurring

Second, I lifted the new legend and colors from the Same-Sex marriage map, Is there a reason we should have two different legends and coloring schemes for two articles that are ostensibly trying to show the same thing? MillieBeatle (talk) 20:34, 1 June 2026 (UTC)

Change the maps "LGBTQ hate crime laws by country or territory" and "Incitement to hatred based on sexual orientation and gender identity prohibited by country or territory" to color the Netherlands to purple, to accurately reflect Dutch laws that incitement of hatred based on gender identity is illegal, and discrimination is a basis for a higher sentence, which could be seen as constituting a "hate crime law". Verbal harassment based on gender identity is not illegal, though, so it's ambiguous.
