Research section
The research section goes into far too much detail and exhaustively lists a significant portion of Leo Radzihovsky's research rather than providing a summary of said research in a compendium format. Snaver4l (talk) 18:49, 13 April 2026 (UTC)
COI edit request: sourcing, neutrality, and BLP cleanup
| This edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest was declined. Some or all of the changes appear to have been generated by a large language model, which cannot be used to generate content. See Wikipedia:NOLLM for more information. |
I am Leo Radzihovsky, the subject of this article, and therefore have a conflict of interest. I am requesting independent review rather than editing the article directly. I would be grateful if an uninvolved editor would review and, where appropriate, implement the following limited changes. The purpose is to improve BLP sourcing and neutrality and to condense the research discussion, not to expand the article into a résumé.
| The following discussion has been closed. Please do not modify it. | |
LeadPlease replace the current promotional description in the lead with the following neutral wording: Leo Radzihovsky is a Russian-American theoretical condensed-matter physicist and a College Professor of Distinction at the University of Colorado Boulder. His research spans classical and quantum condensed matter, including liquid crystals, fluctuating membranes, driven disordered media, superconductivity, and ultracold atomic gases. This removes evaluative phrases such as “revealing novel states of matter” while retaining a factual description of the research areas. Sources: Early life and educationPlease replace the current paragraph with: Radzihovsky was born in Saint Petersburg, Russia, in 1966. He emigrated to the United States with his family in 1980. He received B.S. and M.S. degrees in physics from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1988, followed by an A.M. in physics in 1989 and a Ph.D. in physics from Harvard University in 1993. His graduate studies at Harvard were supported by a Hertz Fellowship. From 1993 to 1995, he was a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Chicago. Sources:
CareerThe present sentence gives unsupported intermediate promotion dates. Please replace it with: Radzihovsky joined the University of Colorado Boulder as an assistant professor of physics in 1995. In 2023, he was named a College Professor of Distinction by the university’s College of Arts and Sciences. Sources: ResearchPlease replace the existing detailed research section, including the primary-source maintenance tags and the unsupported statement that a predicted phase was “recently observed experimentally,” with the following concise summary: Radzihovsky’s theoretical research spans classical and quantum condensed matter, particularly systems in which fluctuations and spatial heterogeneity play important roles. His work has included bent-core and other liquid crystals, fluctuating membranes, and driven elastic media subject to quenched disorder. In quantum condensed matter, he has studied degenerate atomic gases, including the BCS–BEC crossover near narrow Feshbach resonances and associated topological phase transitions. Sources:
This replacement would eliminate the five explicit “non-primary source needed” tags and the additional citation mismatch concerning the claimed experimental observation. It also responds to the previous Talk-page concern that the research section was too detailed. Awards and honorsPlease retain a short list of major honors and ensure that the following are cited:

Maintenance templateAfter implementing these changes and checking the remaining claims, please assess whether the broad BLP-sourcing maintenance template can be removed. I understand that this decision should be made by an uninvolved editor. | |
Thank you for reviewing this request. Levradz (talk) 16:42, 9 August 2026 (UTC)
- Hi Levradz, and thank you for your suggestions. I am declining this edit request because it appears to have been drafted with AI (for instance, the part that erroneously deems "novel state of matter" to be an evaluative phrase). Please do correct me if I am mistaken, but otherwise, please be aware that our talk page guidelines do not permit the use of AI to generate edit requests and we prefer that editors write talk page posts in your own words. We appreciate your understanding. Altamel (talk) 02:12, 2 September 2026 (UTC)
- Dear Altamel
- I am not a professional, and am only learning about Wikipedia edits. So indeed I consulted AI to help me draft edits, as I don't know what is and is not allowed. Indeed I did not know that I am not allowed to consult AI to draft edits.
- In any case, currently the page about me at the top states "This biography of a living person needs additional citations for verification. Please help by adding reliable sources. Contentious material about living persons that is unsourced or poorly sourced must be removed immediately, especially if potentially libelous or harmful.
- Find sources: "Leo Radzihovsky" – news · newspapers · books · scholar · JSTOR (April 2026)".
- I wanted to fix this to remove this warning by providing verification for biography citations. As far as I understand the rest of the page is compliant. So would you please make appropriate edits to remove this flag? If you cannot do it without my specific instruction then please tell me what you need proof for my biography to it be considered verified.
- It is my understanding that the following may be questioned:
- 1. I was born in 1966 and emigrated to USA from Russia in 1980. There is a Daily News article in Springfield MA that states this explicitly. I can produce a PDF of this newspaper article, but don't
- quite know how to upload it for you.
- 2. there many sources about my education, Hertz Fellowship, Chicago postdoc,
- 1995 CU appointment, 2023 Professor of Distinction, Apker, Sloan, Packard, APS, and Simons honors: sourced by University of Colorado at Boulder official 2023 awardee page.
- Thus I am requesting a removal of BLP banner. I am having trouble sharing the Daily News article about me and when I came to USA from Russia and my birth year. In any case it is not so important but given this public proof I thought why not have this supported? Levradz (talk) 03:18, 2 September 2026 (UTC)
- Dear Altamel
- I am no longer using AI.
- I am literally asking you to please make these changes so that BLP banner is removed and my page is compliant:
- 1. Please replace the current promotional description in the lead with the following neutral wording:
- Leo Radzihovsky is a Russian-American theoretical condensed-matter physicist and a College Professor of Distinction at the University of Colorado Boulder. His research spans classical and quantum condensed matter, including liquid crystals, fluctuating membranes, driven disordered media, superconductivity, and ultracold atomic gases.
- The aforementioned Daily News Article from 1980 in Springfield town to which I immigrated with my family attests to this and my birth place and dates
- 2. Please retain a short list of major honors and ensure that the following are cited:
- 1988 – LeRoy Apker Award, American Physical Society.
- 1997 – Sloan Research Fellowship.
- 1998 – Packard Fellowship.
- 2003 – Fellow of the American Physical Society.
- 2014 – Simons Investigator.
- 2023 – College Professor of Distinction, University of Colorado Boulder.
- University of Colorado at Boulder has published news releases to these awards
- 3. Please add this to the research description about me:
- Radzihovsky’s theoretical research spans classical and quantum condensed matter, particularly systems in which fluctuations and spatial heterogeneity play important roles.
- This is an accurate and publicly available information based on my numerous works on the https://arxiv.org/search/cond-mat?query=radzihovsky&searchtype=author&abstracts=show&order=-announced_date_first&size=200
- 4. The statement
- Radzihovsky joined the University of Colorado Boulder as an assistant professor of physics in 1995. In 2023, he was named a College Professor of Distinction by the university’s College of Arts and Sciences.
- Is publicly available statement from Univ of Colorado at Boulder, where I have been a professor since 1995
- 5. my career statement is also accurate:
- Radzihovsky was born in Saint Petersburg, Russia, in 1966.
- This information is publically available again from CU Boulder and from aforementioned Daily News article, Simons, Packard, Hertz, Sloan, RPI webpages and news releases.
