Talk:List of Call the Midwife episodes

The article says that the episode titles are unofficial, but doean't give any other information about where they are from. Did a wikipedian just make them up? Pedgeth (talk) 16:19, 16 February 2013 (UTC)

I came here to ask the same question. Their use seems to be widespread, but it's impossible to say now whether these are simply picking up on their use here. They do not appear on the sites of the BBC, the Radio Times, or Neal Street Productions, and they are not being used on the 1st series DVD, or the BBC iPlayer. The fact that they only appear to have been added (here and on the main CtM page) after the episodes screened also rings alarm bells - critically, at this precise moment, Google returns no hits except for this page for "Temptation and Sacrifice" as the supposed title of the episode of 17 February. PBS-WGBH started broadcasting Series 4 on 29mar15. They put it in an unusual 70-min slot and included 58min of actual show content. If the original UK shows are nominally 60min, then it appears this would be a fairly complete presentation of the full content of the first UK episodes. However, they are doing most of the repeat broadcasts in a standard 60-min slot and cutting the show content down to 53min, which is more typical. What is the actual length of the original UK episodes? It looks like WGBH will be putting at least the next episode in a extra-length slot (65 min) so there appears to be an intention to broadcast a fairly full version of this series.-71.174.183.177 (talk) 14:32, 30 March 2015 (UTC)

In the UK the show is broadcast in a 60-minute slot and has no ads, so factoring in time for continuity announcements/trailers at the start/end, 58 minutes of actual show sounds plausible -- ChrisTheDude (talk) 17:02, 30 March 2015 (UTC)

All 8 Series 4 episodes were broadcast "complete" by WGBH in 2015 with 58min of core show content, in an unusual super-sized time slot of 65min (or 70min for the first and last eps). However, many of the repeats during the week were crammed into a standard one-hour broadcast slot, so the show content was cut by 5min to 53min, to allow for the standard pre- and post-show previews and blurbage.-71.174.188.32 (talk) 18:35, 24 October 2015 (UTC)

What follows refers to ordering and numbering of episodes as shown on the DVD box set. In this Wikipedia entry the Series 4 Special 'Originally aired' date (25/12/2014) precedes the dates of the eight Series 4 episodes (Jan-March 2015). However, given the timing of the introduction of new characters, the Series 4 Special must clearly postdate at least episode 1 of series 4. To clarify, the content of the Series 4 Special (first aired Xmas 2014) that I have just watched on DVD matches the content of what the Wikipedia entry describes as the Series 5 Special (a major theme being the BBC visit to record a programme in the church). @Tolerancej: - just to confirm, here is a contemporary review of the 2015 Christmas special from The Daily Telegraph, which says The main upset was the disappearance from Nonnatus House of lovely sister Monica Joan (Judy Parfitt), whose at-best tentative grasp on reality had slipped into full-on delusion following illness and an argument with Sister Evangelina (Pam Ferris). While that potential tragedy unravelled (shoes found by an icy River Thames, her wimple in a rubbish bin, yikes!) the core story got under way, of a mother relinquishing 20 years of grief for a dead child, and being rewarded for doing so. Between times the growing popularity of television in the early Sixties was an entertaining sub-theme, with Adrian Scarborough in good form as a prim BBC producer (“The aesthetics are vital. We can’t have anyone looking poor”) seeking to broadcast a Christmas service from Poplar’s parish church; and the ever present medical matters, this year focused on a potentially deadly outbreak of measles. If the DVD calls it the series 4 special then I can only presume that the DVDs (which I do not own) attach the Christmas specials to the series which they followed rather than the series which they aired a few weeks before. The BBC website simply calls it "Christmas Special 2015". The episode described above absolutely definitely aired on Christmas Day 2015, shortly before the start of series 5..... -- ChrisTheDude (talk) 10:37, 20 February 2026 (UTC)

It also usefully confirms that, in the way I describe above, our DVD is in error, and I needn't trouble this thread with this problem any further. Hi. I am not so sure it's true. The Radio Times two days ago is the only place it appears, despite a lot of coverage of the prequel in the Internet and on the news sites. Google returns only two results, this one and the Call the Midwife series official Facebook site in a last August post that does not have this information, which usually means it was removed as unreliable or wrong. Shouldn't we remove this information from the article by WP:FRUIT, or at least explicitly say it could be wrong? I didn't even saw anything about being the prequel a mini-series instead of expected 7-season regular series, a year from 1939 to 1945. Fix me if I'm wrong in something in all of this, or missing another source, please. What do you think? Thank you. IKhitron (talk) 09:35, 10 March 2026 (UTC)

Found one source that talks about three-episodes season (which could or could not be the last, as in any series, of course), not the mini-series, but it is forbidden by WP:RSP Daily Star entry, so I'll continue to search. My opinion as for now is that the season indeed will include three episodes, one of many seasons, but it worth nothing without reliable sources. IKhitron (talk) 13:08, 10 March 2026 (UTC)

It says that 133 episodes were broadcast by March 2025. However, the list of series ads up to only 131, and that includes up to March 2026. Ds77 (talk) 02:27, 10 May 2026 (UTC)
