The recent addition of the image from Gretzinger et al. only has two Macedonian samples which would be classified as insufficient in most empirical studies. My suggestion is to drop the image and maybe move the wording to the body or to completely drop it.

Several circumstances should be taken into account. This study is a secondary, not primary. This means that it is based on dozens of other genetic studies and summarises them. Its conclusion coincides with other similar studies from recent years. It is brand new and has been published in a world-renowned peer-reviewed scientific journal while its authors are dozens of specialists in various scientific fields from reputable Western universities. In this case, the sample is small, but it is quite sufficient to confirm the conclusion of the team, which also includes specialists in applied mathematics. Nature is one of the world's most-read and most prestigious academic journals. Denying its conclusions means denying modern science at the highest level. Jingiby (talk) 07:38, 2 November 2025 (UTC)

You're not actually addressing my concern here - the validity of the paper itself is fine but the sample size of only 2 Macedonians is far from representative of the Macedonian population average, heck Bulgarians in that part of the study have a sample size of 1 where statistical inference is not even possible. I will adjust with appropriate wording to highlight the sample sizes which is standard practice in empirical studies. Kromid (talk) 08:52, 3 November 2025 (UTC)

I support returning to the stable version unless a consensus develops here that a study with sample size of two is appropriate to include. It's not only been added in text but also with a graphic in a section that didn't really need another image. --Local hero ^talk 15:18, 3 November 2025 (UTC)

The study itself has low sample sizes in general for Balkan populations with the exception of Romanians with Macedonians and Bulgarians being way underrepresented. I think in its current form it has undue weight (Image + Body) but I am open to suggestions how to better highlight the deficient sample sizes.Kromid (talk) 02:47, 4 November 2025 (UTC)

There were no Slavic "ethnic" Macedonians in antiquity. This section does not belong here and only serves to add confusion, and allow conflation between the Hellenic Kingdom of Macedonia, and the Serbianized Slavs of the Bulgarian Empire. ~2026-12084-51 (talk) 05:47, 30 April 2026 (UTC)
