This article is full of negative bias, subjective judgments and factual inaccuracies. The "controversies" cited in the article are based on flimsy sources rather than legitimate ones. Some of the sources cited don't even support the claims made in the article. For example, the article states that Chitwood was an advocate for coronavirus vaccine mandates, but the article cited only states that he offered additional days off to employees who chose to get vaccinated. That is not a vaccine mandate. This article also states that he is divorced, when the source material states that his wife died. These are only two examples of inaccuracies in an article that has been corrupted by someone with a negative bias against the subject. ~2026-12822-7 (talk) 12:18, 7 January 2026 (UTC)
- The second paragraph of this article contains an unsupported allegation that Chitwood "faced a heavily publicized incident" of "racist comments," but the source cited is a dead link. There is no evidence of these supposed racist comments. The paragraph goes on to describe "public feuds" with prosecutors and judges in a biased manner, with the source material being an opinion article. It states that Chitwood left the Republican Party in 2020 when there is no evidence cited that he was a member of any political party in the first place. ~2026-12822-7 (talk) 12:25, 7 January 2026 (UTC)
- @~2026-12822-7: Not sure how best to respond, but here's my take on each of your points above:
- (1) This AskFagler cite supports he encouraged his officers, in policy and in words, to vaccinate. It does not reference the "vaccine mandate", so I believe this can be reworded.
- (2) The News-Journal article characterizes his former wife using the phrase "his ex-wife and the mother of his three children". I believe this characterization suggests divorce, but if you have another cite that "ex-wife" is meant to mean "deceased wife", we can add it.
- (3) Unless a new link is provided, I think that dead link should be removed and the points it supports, as well. The article doesn't seem to exist when I search on their website and I cannot find an Archive.org backup. The only article I see regarding "racism" and "Chitwood" is this one and I don't see much here besides political sparring.
- (4) The opinion article is probably not enough of a citation to hold he has public feuds, so I would argue more support is needed to keep that statement.
- (5) The WaPo cite does not support leaving the Republican Party in 2020. It states he stopped supporting Trump in 2021 and that he is "registered Independent". So I believe that statement can be rephrased, as well.
- Hope this helps, I'm no expert on Florida politics, so I'd like to seek consensus on the points above before any changes are made, just so we get this right the first time. --Engineerchange (talk) 15:19, 7 January 2026 (UTC)
- Agreed on most of your points. The News-Journal article may refer to his former wife as his ex-wife, but I can find no evidence anywhere that there was a divorce. That leads to the next point: This article has an unusual level of detail delving into the personal life, beliefs and supposed "controversies" of a figure that, granted, is an elected official and public figure in his local county, but arguably not someone whose biography is typically placed under the microscope of Wikipedia. Most of the contents of the article appear to be compiled by someone in that county who has an extreme negative bias against Sheriff Chitwood. ~2026-12822-7 (talk) 16:30, 7 January 2026 (UTC)
