Board Positions
Mike Rogers is no longer on the Board of Trustees of The MITRE Corporation. Someone should update the personal section. Rozenwithaz (talk) 18:57, 5 August 2026 (UTC)
Gap in biography
There is a gap in the biography from 2015 to 2022. Ishboyfay (talk) 05:09, 6 August 2026 (UTC)
- I'm working on it. Thanks for poitning it out. NickCT (talk) 19:32, 11 October 2026 (UTC)
- There's sources like this, for his work at CNN, but the content keeps getting deleted: https://www.cnn.com/profiles/mike-rogers-profile. I'll try adding it back. BBQboffingrill me 00:14, 13 October 2026 (UTC)
Infobox Photo
Changes to the infobox photo have now been reverted several times, so this should probably be resolved here.
The current image is Rogers' official House portrait from 2007. He left the House in 2015 and is now the Republican nominee for U.S. Senate in Michigan, after also being the nominee in 2024. A nearly 20-year-old photo of a current major-party Senate candidate would be an anomaly at best and misleading at worst, particularly when more recent freely licensed photos are available.
If there's a substantive reason to make an exception for Rogers, that should be discussed.

- @CalebHerrington -- That's what this section is intended to do, as described in the consensus policy you linked.

RfC: Infobox photograph
Should Mike Rogers's c. 2005 official House portrait remain as the infobox image, or should it be replaced with a suitable more recent freely licensed image?
I support replacing the current image. It is 20+ years old and dates to his House tenure, which ended more than a decade ago. Rogers is now the Republican nominee for U.S. Senate in Michigan, after also being the party's nominee in 2024.
More recent freely licensed images are available, including post-Congress images from 2015 and 2016. I am not proposing that any particular replacement must be used -- just that a more recent photograph of a prominent, active Senate candidate would be appropriate.
The previous attempt at resolution at #Infobox Photo did not receive substantive engagement. ~2026-44020-30 (talk) 20:40, 24 August 2026 (UTC)

- (summoned by bot), I don't think the discussion above really cuts it as appropriate WP:RFCBEFORE. TarnishedPathtalk 00:16, 25 August 2026 (UTC)
- How do we know if any of the photos on https://web.archive.org/web/20260811045457/https://mikerogers.house.gov/ are freely licensed? This page has a "Download an Official Headshot"-button. Does that mean that photo is make by the government and thus in the public domain? Maybe ask the Commons Helpdesk? Polygnotus (talk) 07:07, 25 August 2026 (UTC)
- As there seems to have been an edit war previously, will you please add the original image and the one you were trying to change the infobox image to? As well as label them and add any more images that can be found or are proposed as options. That will help unfamiliar editors get a better idea of what you are proposing to change and makes a reply a lot easier.
- As it stands right now if there is an appropriate image I agree that an up to date image would be ideal. I looked through the edit history and I feel like the current image is better than you new image that was trying to be added. If there are is another image that can be found that is more head on so we can see more of his face that would be more ideal. Tepkunset (talk) 13:36, 25 August 2026 (UTC)
- Here is the image the infobox was previously updated to:

- As far as I can tell, it is currently the best available option in Commons and is about 10 years more recent than the existing 2005 photo.
- There are also several other potentially usable newer images, including high-resolution public-domain U.S. Army photos from 2019, a DoD photo from 2016, and other freely licensed images from 2015. I can include potential options below.
- I agree that we should use the most appropriate newer image available, taking image quality, composition, and recognizability into account. But I do think a 20+ year-old primary infobox photo is squarely inappropriate for an active major-party U.S. Senate candidate when substantially more recent, freely usable images exist.
- FWIW -- the only other infobox photo I found for a current major-party Senate candidate dating from before 2014 is Adam Hamilton's 2011 photo, which appears to be the only distinct photograph of him available on Commons, and is still six years newer than Rogers's.
- Other potential options:

- I uploaded the first 2019 image to Commons. If a more recent image infobox is desired, I think this one would work well. scoutguy138 03:01, 1 September 2026 (UTC)

Anything much more recent should be used. A 20+ year old photo for someone still running for office is well outdated. ContentEditman (talk) 11:25, 13 September 2026 (UTC)
It seems like there's general agreement that a newer photo would be more appropriate and preferred.
Given that, we should choose the best available photo. I think this is the one below:
~2026-44020-30 (talk) 15:41, 15 September 2026 (UTC)
- I agree this is a better choice than the outdated 2005 photo for date, but hardly flattering. You'd think a guy running for Senate would have his team put out a public domain photo or two. BBQboffingrill me 04:30, 17 September 2026 (UTC)
- I agree the open-shirt photo is more current, and I agree it's not a great photo. That said, I do prefer it over the other. JerryGraf (talk) 22:03, 18 September 2026 (UTC)
- Agreed. Another editor updated the infobox photo to the above. It's better than the previous 2005 photo but I'd welcome another recent one if it was made available. ~2026-44020-30 (talk) 16:56, 19 September 2026 (UTC)
