Hi I am new to Wiki, had some editing Issues with this article, it was deleted and then restored by an admin, I then with his permission restored it to the previous version before I had actually edited anything. I now understand that the page is being reconstructed by admins as it was not originally constructed acording to teh rules, and will not be making any changes myself, I was also asked to open an account which I did, if you have any questions please send me a message, I am still in the process of figuring out how to use WIKI, so I appreciate your patience --Danielroseit (talk) 05:21, 8 January 2013 (UTC)

Almost everything seems to come from press releases. Were any of these picked up by real newspapers? Smallbones(smalltalk) 11:01, 9 January 2013 (UTC)

Mobileye has been featured in many newspapers, most of the articlles can also be found online for example: Reuters : http://www.reuters.com/article/2012/10/24/mobileye-driving-idUSL5E8LODTY20121024

New York Times:

http://www.nytimes.com/2009/11/15/automobiles/15safety.html?n=Top%2fReference%2fTimes%20Topics%2fSubjects%2fA%2fAutomobiles&_r=0

is this what you mean? --Danielroseit (talk) 10:43, 10 January 2013 (UTC)

Yeah, if the Motor Trend article wasn't a deadlink, there might be enough for an article. A few more articles would be very nice Smallbones(smalltalk) 22:23, 10 January 2013 (UTC)

Also, they are now partnered with Tesla, need to add that to the article, as it is not mentioned anywhere. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 146.6.208.9 (talk) 15:30, 22 May 2014 (UTC)

Headquarter in Israel or in Netherlands?

The text says Netherlands, the Info-Box says Israel. What gives? -- 89.182.217.69 (talk) 08:17, 2 December 2015 (UTC)

This article seems very stale. Seems hasn't seem many updates since 2017? Is it here for historical purposes or should it be updated? Daniel.Cardenas (talk) 16:37, 15 December 2019 (UTC)

Request Edit

Hi, my name is Cliff and I work at Mobileye. I would like to request some corrections and updating to our Wikipedia entry. This is my first time working with Wikipedia so please forgive any errors in etiquette.

INTRODUCTION

In the introduction I would ask to clean up a few grammar issues and update to account for new areas that the company has expanded into. I would propose the following first paragraph: "Mobileye is an Israeli subsidiary of Intel corporation that is developing vision-based self-driving cars and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) that provide warnings for collision prevention and mitigation and whose technology surveys roadside assets to produce GIS layers used to create asset and mobility maps. [1] The company has announced that in 2022 it will begin providing Mobility-as-a-Service (MaaS) services starting with robotaxis in Tel Aviv.[2]

Not done Business wire press releases are primary source and should be used with care, and certainly not to promote a company. I edited the introduction and removed "vision-based" because there is no wikilink for it and an average reader will know what that is. It can be defined later in the article if so wished.

In the second paragraph this may be Wikipedia style but should it be "Mobileye's headquarters" instead of "Mobileye headquarters"? Also the official name of the company is "Mobileye Vision Technologies Ltd." and not "Mobileye Vision Technology Ltd." In the last sentence I would suggest the word "purchase" instead of "takeover" as it was mutually agreed upon. This is according to the already listed source.

Not done I do not see a grammar issue, a source was not provided to support the change of name and the BBC article describes the transaction as a takeover.

HISTORY

In the first paragraph I would propose cleaning up the English in the last sentence to read, "After receiving a license to use the technology which was owned by Yissum, he set up the company's R&D headquarters in Jerusalem, Israel together with Ziv Aviram."

Removed A citation for this sentence is not provided in this request or the article, so it has been removed. Please provide a source to add it back in.

In the third paragraph I am not sure where the information about the Philippines factory comes from and it doesn't really describe what the aftermarket department does so I would propose changing to: " In 2006, Mobileye set up an aftermarket department, which offers retrofit devices with ADAS features. The aftermarket products are sold to an international network of distributors on all continents who sell the products to fleets of trucks and buses, to car dealerships, and to car accessory shops."

Removed This paragraph in the article is not verified by the citation. Since the distributors are not part of the company, we do not need to describe the distributor's operations.

In the fourth paragraph I would request an update as to the number of EyeQ chips sold, "The EyeQ chip is used in over 60 million vehicles sold as of July 2020. [2] The latest generation of the EyeQ chip is the EyeQ5." [3]

Removed Per MOS:CURRENT Wikipedia avoids statements like "as of X date". I also don't think this information is pertinent to the History of the company, and it is promotional, so I removed it

In the fifth paragraph I would request an update to delete the sentence, "The companies plan to develop autonomous vehicles for the consumer market by 2021." as it is not correct

 Done

In the sixth paragraph it refers to a robotaxi service in "Israel". I would request this be made more exact, the service will be in Tel Aviv. [4]. This paragraph could possibly be moved further down if you accept my requested editions for adding information about MaaS.

? I could not find this reference. Can you quote the exact sentence?

I would also as to add several paragraphs as an update as the company has expanded operations over the years:

"In 2018, Mobileye executives Shai Shalev Shwartz and Amnon Shashua, along with Shaked Shammah, published a paper entitled “On a Formal Model of Safe and Scalable Self-driving Cars.”[5] " In it, they proposed the establishment of an open safety standard for self-driving cars. This standard, entitled Responsibility-Sensitive Safety, is a white-box, mathematical model for safety assurance capable of being tested and verified.

Not done This article is about the company, not the executives, and should only document what the company has done.

In 2020, Mobileye published two unedited video clips of their self-driving car driving through Jerusalem’s streets. The vehicle used only vision sensors and was equipped with two EyeQ5 chips.[6] [6]

 Not done Promotional, non-notable information.

In 2019 Mobileye came to an agreement with RATP, a French public transportation provider, to establish a robotaxi service. The service will work in conjunction with public transportation, providing a model of mixed public/robotaxi service. [7]

Not done Per WP:CRYSTAL Wikipedia does not predict the future and announcements are not themselves notable. When the robotaxi service is set up, we can consider adding the information.

In 2020, Mobileye came to an agreement with Daegu City allowing the company to test and then later deploy robotaxis in the South Korean city. [8]

 Not done Per WP:CRYSTAL

In 2020 - Mobileye and NIO announced a strategic collaboration toward developing highly automated and autonomous vehicles (AV) for consumer markets in China and other major territories. As part of the planned cooperation, NIO will engineer and manufacture a self-driving system designed by Mobileye, building on its Level 4 (L4) AV kit. [8]

 Not done per WP:CRYSTAL

In 2020, Intel acquired Moovit, a MaaS solutions provider which is expected to work with Mobileye on MaaS projects, including Mobileye’s proposed robotaxi service. Among other things, Moovit is expected to help optimize the allocation of robotaxis and brings with it the biggest transportation data base in the world. [9]

Not done Wikipedia doesn't report expectations and this article is about Mobileye, not Maas

In 2020, Mobileye announced it would be collaborating with the UAE-based Habtoor Group to deploy robotaxis in Dubai in the near future. As part of the agreement Mobileye will create a set of what the company calls “smart city solutions” based on the Mobileye 8 Connect(TM) product. This will include pavement quality monitoring and traffic flow management. [10]

 Not done per WP:CRYSTAL

TIMELINE

We would like to request a small correction to the timeline entry for 2007 starting, "Introduction of the Mobileye Advanced Warning System..." We request it be changed to, "2007: Introduction of the Mobileye Advanced Warning System, the first aftermarket system featuring functions of lane and vehicle detection running on a single processor."

 Not done per WP:PROMO

We would like to request the following additions to the timeline: 2012: 1 million EyeQ units shipped

Not done per WP:PROMO and no citation given.

2018: Mobileye and Intel propose an open safety standard for self driving cars – Responsibility-Sensitive Safety (RSS) [5]

Not done Proposals are not actions, and WP:NOBLE

2019: 50 Million EyeQ units shipped [11]

Not done per WP:PROMO. We don't need to report sales numbers on Wikipedia.

2019: Mobileye and RATP agree to establish a joint robotaxi service [7]

 Not done Per WP:CRYSTAL

2020: Mobileye agrees to testing and then deploying a robotaxi service in Daegu City South Korea [8]

 Not done per WP:CRYSTAL

2020 – Mobileye comes to strategic collaboration agreement with NIO [8]

Not done So what is this strategic collaboration about? Describe why it is notable and important for the reader to know about this.

2020: Intel acquires mobility startup Moovit [9]

Not done This article is about Mobileye, not Intel or Moovit.

2020: Mobile announces collaboration with the Al Habtoor Group [10]

Not done per WP:CRYSTAL and why is this notable?

2020: Mobileye launches Mobileye SuperVision™ in an agreement with The Geely Group [8]

Not done Why is this notable? Give more information.

TECHNOLOGIES

I would request replacing the terms "firm" and "version" with "company" and "software" for clarity and consistency. This occurs several times in this section.

Not done Editors are volunteers. Firm and version are acceptable synonyms for company and software, in my opinion. If you would like changes, please propose the exact text you want to see in the article.

In the first paragraph I would request to expand the description of the technology to be more exact. I propose the last sentence read, "The firm's detection algorithms recognize motorised vehicles such as cars, motorcycles and trucks, as well as pedestrians and cyclists, in day and most night time conditions."

Not done A citation is not given in this request to verify this addition and the consumer reports source used at the end of the first paragraph in the article doesn't seem to verify it either.

In the second paragraph I request a clarification about the technology adding that the technology "generally" uses a single camera "behind the rear view mirror." I would also request adding the following details about the underlying technology: "The company’s technology can also incorporate multiple cameras, radar and lidar. According to Mobileye, their system allows the cameras, and radars and lidars to work in parallel, independent from one another, providing what the company calls “true redundancy” – a critical component for self driving cars. [1]

Not done Primary source should be used with care. A press release from a compnay about how one of their parts is a "critical component" is WP:PROMO

In the fifth paragraph we request the deletion of the phrase "to a range of around 30m" - as not factual.

 Done

In the tenth paragraph, regarding our work with Ford we request an update as follows, "In 2020, Ford and Mobileye announced that they would be expanding their relationship to offer even better camera-based detection capabilities for driver-assist systems. The agreement included a provision that the Mobileye logo would be displayed on Ford’s SYNC driver assist communications display and marked the first time Ford committed to using Mobileye for the entire lifecycle of a generation of vehicles. [12]

Not done WP:CRYSTAL. We need information about what they are actually doing, not plans.

AFTERMARKET In the aftermarket section we request the following updates: "urban collision warning" should be "urban forward collision warning"

Removed Could not verify this information in the source given in the article.

"(including bicycles)" should be "(including cyclists)"

Removed Could not verify the information in the source given in the article.

We have a new aftermarket product designed for buses and trucks so we request the next to last sentence say, "The company also offers a system for buses and other large vehicles designed with the aforementioned warnings along with blind spot warnings." We also have our own fleet management system and request that the last sentence add the phrase, "including Mobileye's own fleet management system."

Not done A citation was not given in this request for this change.

INVESTMENT For clarity I request writing "Following the Intel acquisition" instead of "Following the acquisition"

 Done

AWARDS AND RECOGNITION We request the addition of the following -

European Inventor Award, Finalist, 2019

CES 2020 Innovation Award Product Honoree

PACE Award winner for development of REM, 2020

In the table listing the EyeQ versions we request the addition, in the Implementations row of "Geely (design win)" in the EyeQ5 column. This represents our agreement with Geely, however no vehicles have actually been produced so this may not be appropriate.

Not done Citations were not given to verify awards.

Comments on the recent edit

Hi Z1720 Thank you for going over my request. I have some responses below, I wasn’t sure what would be easier to work with, if you prefer I can make these comments inline. Cliff Mobileye(talk)

INTRODUCTION

In the first paragraph, your point about MaaS is well taken, but I did find a reference for our data business so I would propose:

"Mobileye is an Israeli subsidiary of Intel corporation that is developing self-driving cars and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) that provide warnings for collision prevention and mitigation and whose technology surveys roadside assets to produce GIS layers used to create asset and mobility maps."[13]

In the second paragraph, the existing source has the company's name correct but the article uses a different, and incorrect, name.

HISTORY

In the third paragraph your point about distributors is well taken but as the aftermarket department is important I would like to include it, although perhaps it would be better moved to the first paragraph? In any case I would propose:

"In 2006, Mobileye set up an aftermarket department, which offers devices to retrofit existing vehicles with ADAS features." [14]

In regards to RSS, again I understand your point but I believe RSS is a rather important step in self-driving technology so I would propose the following:

“In 2018 Mobileye proposed the establishment of an open safety standard for self-driving cars. In 2019, The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) began work to establish such an industry-wide standard called IEEE P2846, which builds off of the RSS model.” [15]

TIMELINE

Basically understand your changes but would propose the following:

2019 – IEEE establishes working group for self-driving safety standards building off of RSS.[15]

2020 - Mobileye launches Mobileye SuperVision™ the first ADAS-to-AV scalable system.[16]

2020 - Mobile announces collaboration with the Al Habtoor Group, one of the first major collaborations between and Israeli technology company and a UAE conglomerate. [17]

2021 - Mobileye begins testing self-driving cars in Munich.[18]

TECHNOLOGIES

For the first paragraph you asked for references about our technology, here are two: [14][19]

At the end of the first paragraph, I would propose the following: "Currently, the company’s technology can also incorporate multiple cameras, radar and lidar. The system allows the cameras to work in parallel with radars and lidars to provide redundancy.” [2]

AFTERMARKET

You asked for a source for "The company also offers a system for buses and other large vehicles designed with the aforementioned warnings along with blind spot warnings."[20]

AWARDS AND RECOGNITION

You asked for references for the awards. I know ine is a primary source but I thought for awards that would be okay

European Inventor Award Finalist [21]

PACE Award winner for development of REM, 2020 [22]

Thanks again for your help
