Can't we find someone (anyone!) other than Jonathan Aitken to provide a positive quote about Nixon?
The section Presidency of Richard Nixon#Historical reputation presents a somewhat negative quote from a historian (Stephen E. Ambrose) about Nixon, followed by a more positive one from Jonathan Aitken. It's possible that from a US/global perspective, Aitken is just known as a biographer of Nixon, but from a UK perspective he is remembered for a range of other things, including the abrupt termination of his prominent political career when he was jailed for perjury and perverting the course of justice. In 2021 I added a few words which I thought added some context to him being the source of a positive view of Nixon, but these were swiftly reverted for WP:SYNTH. While I understand and (grudgingly) accept the reversion, I still feel that it is ironic, to say the least, for a positive quote about a disgraced politician to be sourced (without comment) from another disgraced politician. I accept that it is reasonable for the article to include something to contrast with the Ambrose quote, and wouldn't go as far as to say that we shouldn't quote Aitken, but rather that it would be preferable to use someone else who doesn't themselves have such a chequered history regarding the truth. (At the risk of committing another WP:SYNTH, I might also direct anyone interested in Mr Aitken's reliability as a biographer to the section in his Wikipedia article that deals with his more recent biography of the ex-President of Khazakstan: Jonathan Aitken#Nazarbayev and the Making of Kazakhstan: From Communism to Capitalism) JA 1961 (talk) 18:47, 10 January 2024 (UTC)
Resignation of Richard Nixon
I believe I’ve asked this question before but I don’t recall the response. Why is there no article on the resignation of Richard Nixon, and only a four paragraph summary and a redirect? Viriditas (talk) 00:40, 25 June 2024 (UTC)
- I’ve been asking this since 2011, when I created the redirect. Viriditas (talk) 00:41, 25 June 2024 (UTC)
- How is it that the only US President to resign doesn’t have an article on the topic? This is incredibly unusual. Viriditas (talk) 00:43, 25 June 2024 (UTC)
- Still makes no sense the more I think about it. Pardon of Richard Nixon gets its own article, but not the resignation? I feel like I’m taking crazy pills. Viriditas (talk) 01:01, 25 June 2024 (UTC)

Government budgets under Nixon
Is it either accurate or fair to Nixon to include the 1975 United States federal budget as a product of his presidency? Had it even been passed by Congress when he resigned on August 9, 1974?Amyzex (talk) 21:44, 20 August 2025 (UTC)
Proposed split
I propose splitting the resignation section into a seperate article titled Resignation of Richard Nixon which is currently a redirect to that section. This could be a WP:OTHERSTUFF statement, but there are many other articles on resignations, and this is arguably the most famous in world history, and this is unique as the only President of the United States to ever resign, and it is a very notable moment in American history. See no reason why a separate article shouldn't exist considering it is a defining event of the 1970s and the history of the President of the United States, as well as the United States. Support or Oppose a proposed split, or any other comments? Servite et contribuere (talk) 23:31, 22 March 2026 (UTC)
- Support - Though there should be brief written mention of the resignation, is this (the presidency) page. GoodDay (talk) 23:50, 22 March 2026 (UTC)
- Support Unique in nature and the article is pretty long Olliefant (she/her) 00:15, 23 March 2026 (UTC)
- Support per those above. BD2412 T 00:21, 23 March 2026 (UTC)
- Bring Richard Nixon's resignation speech with it.Moxy🍁 00:56, 23 March 2026 (UTC)
- Oppose If you're talking about Presidency of Richard Nixon#Resignation, it's absolutely not long enough to justify a split. There's also Watergate scandal#Impeachment process and resignation and Impeachment process against Richard Nixon#Resignation and conclusion that cover this topic, so creating a new page just for the sake of having a page because there are articles on other resignations is ridiculous. Moving Richard Nixon's resignation speech to a new title that covers more than just the speech may be appropriate, but a split is not actually necessary. If you think the article is too long, perhaps some of the foreign policy section could be moved to Foreign policy of the Nixon administration. Reywas92Talk 01:30, 23 March 2026 (UTC)
- @Reywas92: a new page on the topic would presumably include all the details on the topic Olliefant (she/her) 02:36, 23 March 2026 (UTC)
