Talk:Racial views of Donald Trump

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Potential name change

Should we move the article to Donald Trump and race to have consistency with Donald Trump and religion, Donald Trump and fascism, etc.? I'm not sure if this is really necessary so I'm posting this here to gauge whether a proper RM is in order. Thanks, Glasspalace (talkcontribs) 02:56, 11 January 2026 (UTC)

Support This does seem like it would be more consistent and a solid move, would like to see what others think FiredudeT (talk) 07:21, 2 March 2026 (UTC)
Oppose "Donald Trump and race" is highly ambiguous, even if it does follow similar article names. WikiEntropia (talk) 22:31, 5 May 2026 (UTC)

I would endorse a change to Racist speech and actions of Donald Trump. See WP:SPADE. JJARichardson (talk) 00:15, 7 February 2026 (UTC)

Support. The current title is misleading and uses euphemisms. Dimadick (talk) 11:01, 7 February 2026 (UTC)

The last trump post about Obama's as apes is not repost/retweet. It was plain post/tweet ~2026-84750-7 (talk) 19:57, 7 February 2026 (UTC)

Do you have a reliable source? O3000, Ret. (talk) 19:59, 7 February 2026 (UTC)

Done Ahh, Skitash changed with a source. O3000, Ret. (talk) 20:27, 7 February 2026 (UTC)

Opening sentence

"... have been viewed by scholars and the public as racist or sympathetic to white supremacy."

I think it should be "racist *and* sympathetic to white supremacy". ~2026-85451-2 (talk) 20:42, 7 February 2026 (UTC)

I agree. It's not an "either or" thing. Both are things that have been claimed by scholars. Captainbeetroots (talk) 23:16, 11 February 2026 (UTC)

I vote to remove the "too long" box at the top

The box says, more completely, "This article may be too long to read and navigate comfortably." It was put in place Sept 2024.

It looks to me like there have been improvements since. It is still long, yes, but there is now good nav in the sidebar and there are plenty of subheadings. I don't see any advantage to splitting it into several smaller articles.

So, as I say in the heading above, I say the box should be removed. bjkeefe (talk) 21:21, 7 February 2026 (UTC)

Requested move 17 April 2026

The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

The result of the move request was: not moved. Not moved for the proposed title, No consensus for Racist speech and actions of Donald Trump. Editors found the proposed title ambiguous and not precise. There was not enough engagement with the proposed alternative title to find a consensus for it. A follow-up RM for Racist speech and actions of Donald Trump can be started within a reasonable time. (closed by non-admin page mover) Squawk7700 (talk) 16:19, 9 May 2026 (UTC)

Racial views of Donald TrumpDonald Trump and raceDonald Trump and race – See above discussion started by Glasspalace - move would be consistent with other "Donald Trump and X" pages, as well as being neutral, unlike other suggestions ("Racist speech and actions"). It will not change the meaning of the title. • Support per nom, consistent with other pages about Donald Trump. {{GearsDatapacks|talk|contribs}} 20:53, 17 April 2026 (UTC)
  • Oppose Repeating my suggestion of Racist speech and actions of Donald Trump, per WP:SPADE, as this is the primary subject of the article. JJARichardson (talk) 23:16, 17 April 2026 (UTC)
I don’t quite think SPADE applies that way - its use in article space seems to be limited to when a mostly undisputed statement is twisted to not be obvious. In this case, characterizing the subject as “racist” is a contentious label. Even though it’s (IMO) true, it’s a non-neutral statement that needs multiple reliable sources to back it up. Oppose for now, because the article’s name has been the same since at least 2018, looking back at the talk page archives. The current article name has worked well for years.
It just seems like a hassle to have to change the name of the article when so many pages link to the current name. CorsicanRepublic (talk) 02:32, 18 April 2026 (UTC) (Nota bene Blocked sockpuppet of JohnAdams1800, see investigation)Maltazarian parleyinvestigate 14:19, 28 April 2026 (UTC)
For your first point, please see WP:CONTENTAGE.
A page move would not actually affect any links, since all links to the original title will act as a simple redirect to this page; the only change would be the title of this page. Wasting time is still my passion (talk) 06:22, 18 April 2026 (UTC)
Support per WP:CONSISTENT Wasting time is still my passion (talk) 06:23, 18 April 2026 (UTC)
Oppose It feels like we're trading accuracy for consistency. The vast majority of article is about his views, and "Donald Trump and race" feels more general and could cover lots of other things, like policy. For instance, the administration's mass firings due to what they claim are DEI are not mentioned here, nor is how he is using the DOJ's Civil Rights division. And when or if those get added to this article, I imagine they will be used as examples of his views – with direct quotes from the man himself – and not a larger, more general overview of the administration's policy or history with race relations, as the more general "Donald Trump and race" might imply. Racist speech and actions of Donald Trump would also work, but that (unfortunately) starts a debate as to whether or when we can use the word "racist" in wikivoice. Captainbeetroots (talk) 07:07, 18 April 2026 (UTC)
  • Oppose and agree with JJARichardson that Racist speech and actions of Donald Trump more clear identfies the article's content. "and race" is vague and minimizes the actual subject compared to the current or alternative name. Reywas92Talk 03:58, 22 April 2026 (UTC)
