- ... that since pilot Ruth Reinhold was below 5 feet (1.5 m) in height, tower operators would refer to her plane as 'pilotless' due to difficulty in seeing her in the cockpit?
- Source: When Ruth (who was just about five feet tall) flew, her plane was often referred to as pilotless because the tower operator could hardly see her in the cockpit. https://www.google.com/books/edition/Arizona_Goes_to_War/r-yz5_3Jf1gC?hl=en&gbpv=1&dq=%22Ruth+Reinhold%22&pg=PA64&printsec=frontcover

Overall:
Could we consider saying something like ... that a plane flown by Ruth Reinhold was called "pilotless" because her height made it difficult for tower operators to see her in the cockpit?
? I don't think we need her exact height, and for what it's worth, the source says "about" five feet, not "below". — An anonymous username, not my real name 04:17, 8 April 2026 (UTC)
- @An anonymous username, not my real name: Thank you for the feedback, and I agree with your suggestion, I added it as ALT1. To your other comment, the source says she was "just about five feet", which I think suggests she was still below five feet in height. But I agree your more straight-forward wording works better. I'll tentatively approve both hooks, but I'll note my strong preference for ALT1. — An anonymous username, not my real name 17:00, 9 April 2026 (UTC)
