Mapping

Should there be a section regarding how, often, as a part of the speedruns, the interior of the building is mapped out as new runs are posted ~2026-20636-82 (talk) 15:40, 28 April 2026 (UTC)

I am pretty sure that you can get the floor plans from city hall. Got a source that mentions the mapping? --Guy Macon (talk) 15:49, 28 April 2026 (UTC)
There's this source from Dexerto. Monkegamer123 (talk) 21:51, 28 April 2026 (UTC)
TikTok Users' mapping of the Scientology building is major enough to need to be added in the Wikipedia page VC223333 (talk) 04:12, 5 May 2026 (UTC)
Ill get working on it Goetia [She/they/any] (talk) 17:19, 5 May 2026 (UTC)

Image

I removed an image of the Hollywood Testing Center building, as that isn't the same building as "Church of Scientology Headquarters in Hollywood, Los Angeles. The building, located at 6331 Hollywood Blvd, houses the corporate offices of the church" as mentioned in the text of the article. Either both buildings are being targeted, or you meant to get a photograph of the Hollywood guarantee building, or the text is wrong and it should instead mention the testing center and NOT the headquarters building at 6331 Hollywood Blvd.

Discuss, and come to a consensus as to which building should be in the article.   ▶ I am Grorp ◀ 22:55, 28 April 2026 (UTC)

Oops, my mistake. I got the two buildings confused when I first added the text about it being the main Headquarters. The addresses are so similar that I didn’t realize it’s two different places. If you can go ahead and change the text and add back the image I’d appreciate it. OrbitalVoid49 (talk) 23:01, 28 April 2026 (UTC)
I went ahead and fixed the text myself, I’ll add the image back shortly. OrbitalVoid49 (talk) 23:18, 28 April 2026 (UTC)
Cool. Thanks for clearing that up. I wondered when I saw the floorplan drawing, because the bottom of the Hollywood Guarantee Building is the L. Ron Hubbard exhibition, and doesn't have classrooms and tables.   ▶ I am Grorp ◀ 23:41, 28 April 2026 (UTC)

Infobox image

An image in an infobox should illustrate the subject matter. Any ONE building is not the subject of the speedrunning, and an image of the Christie Hotel building is already in the article. The article would be better illustrated if someone took a "still photo" from one of the speedrun videos showing the "action" of someone inside one of the buildings. Upload it to WikiCommons, then use it here in the infobox. (Click here for uploading)

There may be copyright issues if you take an image from someone else's video, but I'm not versed in image copyright matters so I cannot give advice on that. But if the video is yours, then I know that's acceptable.   ▶ I am Grorp ◀ 16:02, 29 April 2026 (UTC)

yeah my bad - meant to remove the image entirely, not replace it with the old one. I don’t think an infobox image is needed here, I’d more prefer the one at the beginning of the first section. OrbitalVoid49 (talk) 16:18, 29 April 2026 (UTC)
I'm pretty sure there's at least one rule on Wikipedia against committing an actual crime to get an image or a video for an article. Even if there isn't, good luck finding someone who's willing to do this just to get an image of the interior. Showing an image of one of the most raided locations is probably the best it's gonna get. RteeeeKed💬📖 22:42, 2 May 2026 (UTC)
I don't think an infobox is needed. None of the information in it is actually very useful and a lead image of the building, or of the removed doorhandles if we had one, would be a better use of the space. 3df (talk) 23:14, 2 May 2026 (UTC)

Where and how should I add the Scientology map layout?

I need help with this part due to the following reasons:

  1. I new to adding pictures into Wikipedia articles but my Wiki account is about a year old.
  2. Where should I add the image in a appropriate place in the article?
  3. Wouldn't we have to update the image each time the map layout/blueprint gets updated with that being more and more speedruns as time goes on?
  4. Extra: Should we add a list of map layouts and have the dates on when they were made?

RoadMaster19 (talk) 14:16, 3 May 2026 (UTC)

This won't do because the maps are copyrighted, and we would need a license from whoever made them - 3df (talk) 14:43, 3 May 2026 (UTC)
But aren't they just drawings of the map and what license do we need in order to add the maps into the article? Also in what copyright protection are the maps in where it makes us unable to add the pictures into the article? RoadMaster19 (talk) 14:48, 3 May 2026 (UTC)
Please don't confuse copyright with copyright protection. Completely different concepts. If you created the map, release it under a CC BY-SA 4.0 License. If someone else created the map, convince them to release it under a CC BY-SA 4.0 License. If you can't do either of those, the map is not allowed anywhere on Wikipedia. See WP:COPYVIO for details. --Guy Macon (talk) 16:18, 3 May 2026 (UTC)

Is “speedrun” a misnomer here?

Could it be that “Speedrun” be a misnomer? The term originally applies to completing a videogame (as a whole or some specific goals) as fast as possible. I think this is a bit of a misnomer and might warrant a {{efn}} Toarin (talk) 22:00, 4 May 2026 (UTC)

Not sure if it's a misnomer, but it's definitely a term taken from video gaming and used here in the real world. Several of the cited sources mention the origin of the term "speedrunning". You're welcome to add an {{efn}} as long as you include a source.   ▶ I am Grorp ◀ 00:03, 5 May 2026 (UTC)

Capital letters

Should this be titled Scientology Speedrun as it's the name of a challenge (e.g. Momo Challenge, Tide Pod Challenge) or should it be titled Scientology speedrunning as a generic term (e.g. Minecraft speedrunning)? Schestos (talk) 12:17, 8 May 2026 (UTC)

Article structure

A previous re-structuring created a geographic directory, which conflicts with WP:NOTDIRECTORY and WP:NOTEVERYTHING. Because the phenomenon has a clear chronological origin and then later imitations, a narrative structure per WP:SUMMARYSTYLE is more appropriate. The revised structure restores due weight to the origin and avoids over-subsectioning.   ▶ I am Grorp ◀ 18:08, 8 May 2026 (UTC)

Thanks for this. I agree here - no need to section by geographic location in the origin section. That being said, it may be worth creating a separate section with information about notable incidents worldwide sometime in the future. OrbitalVoid49 (talk) 22:49, 8 May 2026 (UTC)
For now, add new ones to the Development section. If it gets very large and makes sense to split it in the future, then we can revisit it. But for now, just 3 other locations doesn't warrant a geographic structure. Because it's based on trespass-for-lulz and not protest/demonstration, this trend isn't going to grow like Project Chanology did.   ▶ I am Grorp ◀ 22:57, 8 May 2026 (UTC)
I might suggest an Incidents section, with a bulleted prose list of specific runs with a lot of media coverage? 3df (talk) 04:33, 9 May 2026 (UTC)
Keep in mind that Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a newspaper and not social media. Think of what you might find in an encyclopedia.   ▶ I am Grorp ◀ 04:49, 9 May 2026 (UTC)

Add Current Event infobox

Currently, these speedruns are still ongoing, so we must have an infobox for the info to readers that it is an ongoing event and may change frequently. ~2026-27026-51 (talk) 00:03, 11 May 2026 (UTC)

no, that’s not how current event banners work. they’re for breaking news events such as shootings or natural disasters.
From Template:Current:

It is not intended to be used to mark an article that merely has recent news articles about the topic; if it were, hundreds of thousands of articles would have this template, with no informational consequence.

OrbitalVoid49 (talk) 02:06, 11 May 2026 (UTC)
how about we add like a date format for the existing infobox? (like the date it started: ─; and add current.) This format
─ to Current ~2026-27026-51 (talk) 23:50, 13 May 2026 (UTC)
Because that doesn't age well. See MOS:REALTIME.   ▶ I am Grorp ◀ 03:27, 14 May 2026 (UTC)
