Upon clicking the on the main image for this article, the caption "rise up, o Lord, and may thy enemies be scattered and those who hate thee be driven from thy face" is shown. However, this has no quotation marks or other indication that it is, in fact, the potential translation for the wording on a single piece of the colleciton, the lower left piece of the image; as it stands, it's just a "non sequiter", with no apparently beginning or end (no punctuation, uppercase starting word, etc).
Would it not make sense to give a more accurate/helpful caption for the main image, and instead move this quote to caption the later image "Gold strip with inscription"? That caption would probably make more sense to contain the translation regardless.
Basically, clicking the image causes a bit of a double-take as an apparently random sentence shown as the caption for a representative image of the collection. Probably best to either clarify (i.e. say why the given sentence is even mentioned) or just change it to something that makes sense in context. ~2025-34297-42 (talk) 13:21, 17 November 2025 (UTC)
- I don't see what you apparently did, but I have re-ordered the description texts on the Commons image file to put (modern) English first. Hope this solves the issue. The actual text has always been (at the end of a long list): "At the lower left the folded gold band, NLM 550, is inscribed with the Latin inscription "surge d[omi]ne [et] dispentur inimici tui et fugent qui oderunt te a facie tua" which could be translated as "rise up, o Lord, and may thy enemies be scattered and those who hate thee be driven from thy face"[1]Johnbod (talk) 14:48, 17 November 2025 (UTC)
