Paragraph relating to 5th Dukes marriage in 1829.Says George iv attended the christening of the sixth Duke.Wikepedia states that 6th Duke of Buccleuch was not born until 1831.King George iv died on 26th June 1830 so obviously did not attend a christening in 1831.
Should it be William iv who attended the christening?.Or is 6th Duke' birth year incorrect?

– There have been a lot of moves over the years concerning how the surname for these individuals needs to be formatted, with the main question being whether it should be hyphenated or not. Disagreements and random moves by different users have created a lot of inconsistency which goes against WP:CONSISTENT. This is an opportunity for anyone who has a case for hyphenated vs unhyphenated or vice versa to voice their opinions. Princess Alice was born Lady Alice Christabel Montagu Douglas Scott on Christmas Day, 1901 at Montagu House, London.
This also eliminates the arguments that "Montagu Douglas" are middle names. The last three pages on this RM list were also moved by a now indefinitely blocked user, without any discussion. Keivan.fTalk 19:51, 17 May 2026 (UTC) - Oppose group nomination A lot of families with double-barrelled surnames are inconsistent about their names, with different members using it or not and some dropping barrels in day to day use. A couple of the more prominent cases are the Mountbatten(-)Windsors and Spencer(-)Churchills. Amongst the men in my own family we have three different variants which does sometimes cause confusion and hypercorrections all over the place. Many of the Montagu(-)Douglas(-)Scott family members nominated here lived before the days of databases and little jobsworths and so would not have necessarily seen any need to be exactly consistent on this. - These individuals are pretty much from the same era. Even if we ignore the offspring, it is nearly impossible for the first seven individuals on this list to have different surnames as they were husbands and wives. This is the result of constant undiscussed moves without taking other pages, and more importantly the sources, into consideration. I would rather have the issue solved in one centralized discussion rather than having 10 discussions simultaneously which would create a huger mess. Even if this creates some inconsistency it's fine, as long as this mess is cleared up. Keivan.fTalk 14:33, 18 May 2026 (UTC)
- A bit off-topic. My father, whose mother was born "Montagu Douglas Scott" (or Montagu-Douglas-Scott; I'm afraid I don't have much to contribute to the debate), had no idea until he was about twelve that his mother had ever had a surname other than "Scott", plain and simple. And I see from Burke's The Kingdom in Scotland (2001), page 1207, that the 9th Duke "discontinued the use of the surname MONTAGU-DOUGLAS-SCOTT for himself and his eldest son, but retained it for the younger children, adopting instead the surname SCOTT". 45ossington (talk) 15:33, 18 May 2026 (UTC)
