Earliest distillation in Ireland and Scotland

This article bizarrely has the line "The practice of distillation spread to Ireland and Scotland no later than the 15th century", followed a few sentences later by "The earliest mention of whiskey in Ireland comes from the Annals of Clonmacnoise, which attributes the death of a chieftain in 1405 to "taking a surfeit of aqua vitae" at Christmas". Further more Irish whiskey states "Irish whiskey was one of the earliest distilled drinks in Europe, arising around the 12th century".

That non sequitur has remained in place from no later than 2013. I have no idea about when distillation actually started but I do find it amusing that for over a decade nobody noticed an Irish chieftain died from drinking too much whiskey centuries before it apparently existed in Ireland. hahahaha. He died in 1405. That would be the 15th century mentioned, which consisted of the years 1401 through 1500.. Because the first century was the years 1–100 AD.
now that doesn't address the apparent conflict with the Irish whiskey article, but there is no conflict within this article, just a failure of reading comprehension on your part. oknazevad (talk) 06:55, 26 January 2025 (UTC)
@Oknazevad actually I think my failure of reading comprehension is even more moronic than you described. I misread no later than as no earlier than, the following idiocy was based on that faulty premise. I can only assume I had taken a surfeit of aqua vitae and wrote the comment far too late at night. Apologies. 00:13, 8 October 2025 (UTC) BeardedChimp (talk) 00:13, 8 October 2025 (UTC)
Would you be offended if is said "LOL"? Because your response was genuinely funny, and honest. S'all good, chum. oknazevad (talk) 01:31, 8 October 2025 (UTC)
LOL is the appropriate response. I remember thinking that if a chieftain died from a whiskey bender just 5 years into the 15th century then obviously us Irish had been drinking enough water of life to cause death well into the 14th century. Looking at the timestamp, I wrote that comment no earlier than 5am at 04:51, explains a lot. BeardedChimp (talk) 12:05, 8 October 2025 (UTC)

Aging

As a chemist, I find the vague, hand-wavy description of aging to be worse than nothing. There is extensive published research on whiskey chemistry, and it should not be elided or replaced with ignorance, deception, and myth-making, no matter how thoroughly referenced. 2600:1700:6AE5:2510:0:0:0:24 (talk) 16:06, 20 June 2025 (UTC)

It would be helpful when you give sources. The Banner talk 16:59, 20 June 2025 (UTC)
It's also be helpful if he'd explain what he feels is missing and not just vague, handy descriptions of what he perceives as shortcomings. oknazevad (talk) 17:04, 20 June 2025 (UTC)
