Production
Bluey creator Joe Brumm had enjoyed the experience of working on the long-form series 3 episode "The Sign" and told the press he thought that making a feature film would be the natural next step.[4] Ahead of the episode's release in April 2024, executive producer Daley Pearson expressed interest in creating a film adaptation of the series.[5]
In December 2024, BBC Studios and The Walt Disney Company announced that a Bluey film, provisionally titled Bluey: The Movie, was in development. Brumm was set to write and direct after previously working on the animated television series as the director, writer, and showrunner, while Richard Jeffery will serve as co-director after directing the television episodes "Sleepytime" and "The Sign".[6] The voice cast and crew, including the anonymous child actors, of the regular series will return,[6][7] while Joff Bush will return as the composer.[8] Amber Naismith will serve as the producer, and Cosmic Dino Studio will provide the film's animation.[9][6] In March 2026, the film was found to be titled The Bluey Movie,[10] which was confirmed with the reveal of the teaser trailer at the D23 Expo in August 2026.[1][11]
The Bluey Movie is a joint collaboration between Disney, BBC Studios and Ludo Studio. Disney will handle global theatrical and streaming rights, the latter outside of Australia. BBC Studios will be responsible for financing and licensing rights, and Ludo Studio will produce the film.[12] Financial support for the film is provided by the federal government of Australia and the state government of Queensland by tax incentives.[13]
Release
The Bluey Movie is scheduled to be released theatrically worldwide on 6 August 2027.[14]
Marketing
A teaser trailer was released at the D23 Expo on 14 August 2026. The teaser received mixed reactions on social media from the series' fanbase due to the translation of the series' 2D-animated characters to 3D.[15][16][17][18]
Home media
After its theatrical release, the film will stream on ABC iView and ABC Kids in Australia, and Disney+ in United States.[19][8][20]
