"The Shadow of a Man" is a 1953 American television play based on a 1950 novel by May Sarton. Its starred French actor Claude Dauphin who was appearing on Broadway in The Happy Time.[1][2][3]

Premise
A Bostonian man travels to Paris and falls in love with a friend of his mother.

Reception
The Independent called it "a truly adult production and one of which Studio One can long be proud."[4]
1950 Version
The play had been filmed by Studio One in November 1950 with Ilona Massey. Sumner Locke Elliott also did that adaptation.[5][6]
Boston Globe wrote "the time was well spent and the result well worth the effort."[7]
